It was a very big surprise. About a week ago his coach Tregaro declared in media in Sweden that Berlin was out of question and maybe that Olsson can compete at the end of season only. Tregaro/Olsson however said at that time that next competition will be a secret one with no announcement. And it sure was secret. I only read earlier today at www.friidrott.se about this and could not believe my eyes. Fantastic news for Sweden!

    That is wonderful news.

He has had just about the worst luck any athlete could have.

I would love to see him at Worlds.

Glad to hear this. I hope he'll be in Berlin and in good enough shape to fight for the medals. I always liked him. All the other Swedes seem to be injured or retired at the moment.

Fantastic news in an otherwise bad swedish summer

Reportedly the jump was made with a good tailwind +1,8 but on the other hand with more than 20cm to spare!

His coach was overwhelmed by the result and said that he had jumped up against 16,70 in training.
Next competion will be the NC next weekend and after that he will decide on Berlin.

I just dropped by www.friidrott.se, which claims that Christian Olsson has
jumped 17.24 in a local Swedish meet.
