  • South African results - LJ Van Zyl 32.32

The South Africans and Saudi Arabia national teams ran in Spandau, Berlin tonight.

Don't have all results but LJ Van Zyl ran 32.32 for the 300m and a 10.73 earlier in the 100m.

There is an interesting interview with Van Heerden (Van Zyl coach)

Is Rawlinson's 34.48 still the 300H record? I'd like to see the big boys tangle at that race in a big Euro meet, just for fun. Or even the 200H, Jessee's race! (or was that the low hurdles at 20 yard spacing?)

Interesting article, although I think there is a glaring error in the 2nd paragraph:

In late January, LJ van Zyl took the unusual step of lining up in the 800m for his first race of the season, a Yellow Pages meet in Potchefstroom.

Two things made the decision seem strange: Van Zyl is a 400m hurdler, and the last time one of his own incorporated the two- lap race into their training schedule was when it contributed to the great Ed Moses’s dominance of the event in the 1980s.

Felix Sanchez ran a PR of 1:51 in an early season meet in '06.

I know that Van Zyl is quite a common surname in South Africa. Does anyone know if LJ is a relative of Fanie Van Zyl, the brilliant S.A. distance runner from a few decades back?
