I will select 5 athletes who will shine and 5 who will stink..
Shine-
1. Bolt- Gimme pick, right? Will anything less than 3 WR's be a disappointment? Answer- yes...... and he won't disappoint.
2. Meseret Defar- The 5 is all hers.. but the surprise that will elevate her back to the top will be a win in the 10 against an incredible field..
3. Allyson Felix- Peaking at the right time she will take her turn in the Felix wins WC's/VCB wins Olympics sweepstakes. But her time will be the most impressive. She will go under the non-steroid WR and run a blistering two legs on both relays (though it won't be enough in the 4x100).
4. Dayron Robles- The Bolt of the hurdles will make another WR look easy.
5. Shelly Ann Fraser- The new track & field "it" girl will cement her status as the #1 sprinter with another surprise blowout performance similar to Beijing.. Surprise because she melts a supposedly competitive field... But the real surprise will be when she blasts Jam out to a WR in the relay..
5 who will stink
1. Carmelita Jeter- In her only big showdown races of the year she was embarrassed. In Rome she was hyperventilating so heavy before the gun I thought her plane was going down. 5th for her and eaten alive in the relay.
2. Sanya Richards- With pressure mounting for her to win a gold medal, she will again find the rounds too difficult and slip to a disappointing 2nd and a grand helping of the choke label.
3. Blanka Vlasic- How this underachiever/pretty girl, loaded with unbelievable talent, doesn't have the worl record in this event yet is beyond me. Too much time in the mirror. 3rd with a clunk.
4. Jeremy Wariner- Unable to compete with Merritt, he will again quit down the stretch as he prepares his post-race excuse-fest. This time he will drop to 3rd.
5. Ivan Ukhov- The drunk jumper has redeemed himself well with the world lead this year, but the lure of the flask is too great. Beer friendly Berlin will be his demise. 8th and a relapse.
