#s 2 and 4 are not beyond the pale. Not a WR, just a WC record (not sure what it is) for the 200, and 41.58 was pretty good for a practice meet.

        1) Gay hammers Bolt in the 100.

        2) Bolt, as a result of his "hammering", from Gay, withdraws from the 200.

        3) Wariner B@#%$slaps Merritt, causing Merritt to break out in tears!

        4) USA annihilates the 4 x 100 field, putting all mouthy "little nations" in their place.

        5) The first four were enough!

            My top 5 surprise possibilities:

            1. Athanasía Pérra with a 15 meter PB in the women's TJ to win the gold. Devetzi who?

            2. Dwight Thomas with a 13'08 to take gold in the men's hurdles following an uncharacteristic stumble from Robles.

            3. Nick Symmonds wins the 800m

            4. Teddy Tamgho puts up a big one in the TJ

            5. Bronzes for Kate Dennison, Morasanu, Gillick, Debbie Ferguson, Rui da Silva, Guliyev and Igor Janik.

are you saying the others are not possible?
Just in case you misinterpreted, the WC = World Championship & WR = World Record.
                womens : (WC record)100m =10.70 M Jones (Jeter ran wind aided 10.72); 200m = 21.74 Moller (Felix PB=21.81 and recently ran 21.88); 4x100m = 41.37, (US women ran a trial 41.57 yesterday)
mens WR: 100m is 9.69 Bolt (Gay already ran a 9.68 wind aided)
                still wishful thinking??

The funniest thing about this post is that the exact opposite is likely to happen.

                  1. Bolt hammers Gay in the 100
                  2. As a result of the 4 rounds of running and the toll it took on his groin trying to keep up with Bolt in the final, Gay withdraws from the 200.
                  3. Merritt runs under 44 sec beating Wariner by nearly half a second.
                  4. Jamaica wins both 4x100m relays. Russia upsets the American girls in the 4x400 and Bahamas nearly pull it off on the men's 4x400.
                  5. "little nations" teach the "big nations" a big lesson.........again

I despise this attitude that seems to be prevelant in American society. As if a victory puts another country "in their place". What place would that be, as an inferior nation, is it? Is that then in terms of the sport? The event? As a whole? Historically speaking? I mean, what?

The same attitude was apparent when Bernard boasted the French would win the 4x1 freestyle relay and again when Cavic was confident ahead of his Phelps battle. The American media were destroying their characters and desperately wanted to put them back in their place. It's the arrogance of it all, as if...how dare anyone step up to an American.....

Come on now TrainerPhil, the Bahamian men winning gold in the 4x400R... I guess you truly are going out on a huge limb.

As far as the U.S. in the other relays, on your mark...set....BANG!!!.....lol

For #1, Jeter has to win the race, right? 'Nuff said.
For #5, likewise, Gay has to beat Bolt, which is quite unlikely.
Actually, #2 is not beyond the pale.

                        These are all unlikely in varying degrees; do you know about compound probability? P(1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5) = p(1) * p(2) * p(3) * p(4) * p(5).

I ask again: do you really believe those?

Everyone one of the 5 scenario's presented by Megas15 can happen, it is not beyond the realm of probabilty. Actually 4 of the 5 very well may happen.

Ok ok ok....I went a bit far with the Bahamian men in the 4x400.....I think they will keep it close........but I highly doubt that they will win.
