  • all 5 Jamaicans cleared?

That's the scoop according to here:

    http://www.trackalerts.com/?p=2354

(what's left unsaid, though, is that the IAAF isn't bound by such decisions; they can--and have--questioned other lettings-off, and won)

“We met and we discussed the evidence, but we have not reach a position yet, but by tomorrow (Sunday) final we should reach a decision,” he said.
It sounds to me like the article has jumped the gun.

Jamaica seem on the verge of handing critics a lot of ammunition, from lack of secrecy to hiding behind secrecy to avoid embarrassment temporarily.

I think this is gonna create more criticisms because there are sooooo many questions left unanswered. Does the IAAF have something to say about it?

This was not handled very well. They were cleared of doping charges and so they must be allowed to compete, but I'm sure this raises more questions. How very unfortunate for the overwhelming majority of Jamaican athletes who are clean and have never been linked to PEDs.

my God when will this fiasco end ops: ops: ops: I am embarassed to say the least...There is still so much speculation and unanswered questions surrounding this issue that even I have started to become hesitant and skeptical about things...In no way, shape, or form can all this be good for Jamaica...It is one thing to want to be the whistle blower in "Jamaican Drug-gate," but this has got to be the worst whistle blowing case ever...In addition to this, I understand the plight of JADCO and all involved in this fight to clean up the sport, but new agency or not, can they be any worse and premature in how they go about conducting this issue...Whoever is leaking these stories need to be sought out and fired, not for giving out the information, but for the complete and utter lack of understanding in how to leak a story...All this to me, was to get a big payday, because whoever it is, surely is getting PAID...I don't mind leaking the story, but the way it is leaked, only causes more speculation, raises more questions, and shed more bad light on Jamaica and it's athletes...Then, the JAAA's lack of commitment to have this issue sorted out and giving a proper press release on the dawn of the WC's is just utter incompetence, and shows how inefficient our organization is. I want this all to go away, but unfortunately it won't. This journalistic circus is embarassing, and now more than ever, it seems I really need to pack it up here and put this damn Broadcasting degree to use back home....Damn Shame ops: ops:

Again Tammy B...You explained it at least to me very clearly. I am not wishing anything negative to the JA athletes but this entire situation was handled poorly.

Tammy B...now I understand why your posts are so objective...as a journalist you have to remain somewhat neutral...I know that can be difficult at times.

I'm not a journalist hun, :P , not yet any way, hahaha, just have the degree and an internship under the belt, never used it, my goal was to go back home and do Sports Reporting for Jamaica after college, but stayed here and did other things...But, I am a love r of T&F, I'm also a very proud Jamaican, but at the same time, I don't allow national pride and patriotism to cloud my judgement...I hate most of the stuff that gets said in the US vs JA saga, since I've been on TS and now migrated here, when it gets really out of hand, then I jump in but for the most part, I stay out. I respect great performances by ALL athletes, and I give credit where it is due...With that said, I also hate the drug rep our sports has gotten, and will speak out against it, no matter what country. Some fellow countrymen may call me unpatriotic, but who cares...If it's bad for others, it's bad for us as well, no sugarcoating...Like I said I really hope this gets straightened out and we can move on, but I just feel it won't

Well said Tammy. As a proud Canadian, I was horrified when the Ben Johnson scandal broke and saw how quickly it degenerated into a circus of denial and accusations. The notoriety and repercussions are still with us today. Handle it the RIGHT WAY the 1st time around and hope JA does not allow this to become bigger than it should be..

Let's hope History does not repeat itself yet again, and maybe, just maybe, JA might be the 1st country to earn respect and not suspicion that this is not business as usual like the rest of the usual suspects.

Great post, it expressed my frustration with the whole process.JAAA and JADCO have done themselves and Jamaica no good with the manner in which this has been handled from the very beginning.

They have the right to. See gh's post that started this thread.

Sit them out of the relays. Let Brooks run her individual event, but don't risk bringing a whole team down with unpredictable athletes.. Let's say you put Blake as alt and the men go sub-37.. all because of his meaningless alt leg it could get erased if he turns up positive again... don't chance it.. put them on probation when it comes to relays..

... oh, and place Sherone Simpson back on 2nd leg..

The story should have never been leaked so prematurely, all just to prove to the world that you are on top of things. This was just one huge overreaction by the Jamaican authorities and by the fans or haters on this forum, lets move on it's not that big a deal.
