  • Jamaica withdraws request to remove Asafa and company

I thought this deserved it's own topic. If true, it is a BIG story.

    http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sports/h ... _OUT__.asp

This recent report from the Gleaner is saying that they COULD be out:

    http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/ ... orts2.html

So JAAA and company screw things up with this doping situation and they actually get it right with the MVP athletes? Amazing. I really want to see these top athletes compete. Heck, you can pretty much forget gold medals for the JAMS in the relays if Asafa and SAF are out. But, in this day and age where the top athletes appear to hold all the cards I'm glad that someone is willing to stand up to them. There needs to be consequences if you don't follow the rules, and it appears that the MVP athletes are paying the ultimate price.

EDIT: IAAF confirming that Jamaica is requesting that Asafa Powell and others be withdrawn from meet.

EDIT EDIT: It appears now that Jamaica has actually withdrawn it's request.......

    Well this is a relief!
I was afraid we were going to go into world's without another brawl in the Jamaican camp.

I want everything to happen just as it did last year or the jinx will be broken

I don't believe this is going to happen, I do believe those athletes will compete, that there will be a compromise.

these athletes will compete in Berlin...this will all blow over...AP and SAF will be lining up...they are high profile athletes w/an excellent chance of winning...JAAA won't jeopardize that kind of recognition

Seems like JAAA might be a little suspicious of MVP and doping.

How do you connect the dots there? They did not attend the mandatory camp. That is the only reason why they might be kicked off the team. It has nothing to do with doping. Let's not start that nonsense.

Majority of those test didnt come from the MVP camp if my memory serves me correctly.

So that statement doesnt make sense to me.

BTW, just what the HELL is going on in Jamaica?

This process is not new to Jamaica as it is not their first WC. It would behoove JA, on the heels of a scandal, to get it together and curtail these distractions. I would not go as far as "Bootney Lee Farnsworth" to speculate on JAAA but, I can say this; it does not look good! There is so much at stake here...

Inside athletics sources told the Observer late last night that the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) to which the JAAA reports, had insisted that all athletes selected should attend the camp for, among other things, providing urine and blood samples for drug testing.
"The IAAF had contacted the JAAA seeking information on whether or not we were going to have a camp, where the camp would be, where the team would be staying etc.
It doesn't look like specific suspicion of MVP athletes it looks like the IAAF is managing logistics of doping controls- getting everyone in the same place for testing is probably much easier, cheaper, and faster for the alphabet soup guys. I don't know this as a fact but I suspect the same has been done at other country's training camps.

You forget Trainer Phil, that urine and blood samples are collected during this period. It would not be far fetched for someone to assume they were trying to avoid something.

I would want to think that the athletes would have provided details of their whereabouts to the IAAF. I mean they are where they usually are at this time every year anyway
why don't people pronounce vowels anymore

Has any document been produced to show that MVP were in fact notified that attendance was mandatory?

And is anyone seriously suggesting that MVP athletes are hiding from IAAF doping control by having their own well publicized training camp?

Merely asking, why would a group continue to assume a camp is not mandatory? Particularly after last year's fiasco.
