MUROFUSHI IS THE TOP PERFORMER IN LATEST IAAF WORLD RANKINGS

Monte-Carlo - Koji Murofushi - the 2001 World Championship silver medallist in the men’s Hammer Throw – is the top performer in the latest round of the IAAF World Rankings.
Murofushi threw an outstanding 82.95m (1326 points Performance Score) to win the IAAF Osaka Grand Prix over the weekend, to close the gap between himself and reigning European Champion and Event Ranking leader Adrian Annus of Hungary to a single point.
USA World Indoor Long Jump champion Dwight Phillips broke away from compatriot Savante Stringfellow at the top of the Event Ranking. Previously, Stringfellow and Phillips had been ranked first on equal points, but this week Stringfellow was deducted twenty points because of the 365-day-rule – he did not match or better his performance of 8.49m (2002 Osaka GP) which he achieved in the same period last year - and therefore he dropped to third place. Phillips now stands alone at the top of the Men’s Long Jump Ranking, with Miguel Pate also of the USA, just one point behind him in second.
The fastest Australian ever – Patrick Johnson – entered the Top-20 of the Men’s 100m Event Rankings with two blistering runs in Japan over the past week. Johnson first won the Mito International Meet in an amazing 9.93 (1256 points Performance Score), then five days later came in second behind Tim Montgomery at the Osaka GP in 10.05 (1277 points Performance Score), and moved up seven places to 15th in the Event Ranking.
Another sprinter to turn heads over the past fortnight was young Canadian Nicolas Macrozonaris. The 22-year-old upset among others World Record holder Tim Montgomery of the US when winning the Banamex GP in Mexico City a week ago. Macrozonaris finished with 10.03 (1244 points Performance Score) – a new personal best – and moved up eight places to 19th in the Event Ranking.
USA shot putter Kevin Toth threw 21.24m (1235 points Performance Score) to win the Modesto Relays in California over the weekend and move up a spot ahead of compatriot John Godina into second place in the Event Ranking. The Shot is still lead by another American, Adam Nelson.
Kelli White is back in the Top-10 of the Women’s 100m Event Rankings. White finished second in Osaka in 11.07 (1271 points in Performance Score) and rose three places to eighth.
Brenda Taylor also keeps moving up the Rankings. The young 400m hurdler rose another three spots in the latest round of the IAAF World Rankings, as Taylor finished second in Osaka with 55.65 (1244 points in Performance Score) and is now 10th in her Event Ranking.

Monte Carlo – Koji Murofushi, médaillé d’argent du lancer de marteau des derniers Championnats du Monde, a réalisé la meilleure performance de la semaine dans le contexte des Classements Mondiaux de l’IAAF.
Murofushi a lancé le marteau à 82,95m (1326 points de score) et remporté le Grand Prix d’Osaka le week-end dernier. Il a ainsi réduit l’écart qui le sépare du Hongrois Adrian Annus, champion d’Europe en titre et leader du classement mondial par discipline, à un seul petit point.
Champion du monde en salle, l’américain Dwight Phillips a enfin distancé son compatriote Savante Stringfellow en tête du classement mondial du saut en longueur. Jusqu’à aujourd’hui, Stringfellow et Phillips s’étaient partagés la tête du classement. Cette semaine, Stringfellow a perdu 20 points en raison de la règle des 365 jours dans la mesure où il n’a pas été en mesure de réaliser une performance équivalente à ses 8,49m du meeting d’Osaka 2002. Il est désormais en troisième position dans un classement qui compte Phillips seul en tête devant Miguel Pate, un autre Américain, deuxième avec un seul point de différence.
Patrick Johnson, l’Australien le plus rapide de tous les temps, a fait son entrée dans le top 20 du classement mondial du 100m masculin grâce à deux excellentes performances réalisées au Japon dans le courant de la semaine dernière. Johnson a d’abord remporté le meeting de Mito en 9’’93 (1256 points de score), un superbe temps qu’il a confirmé cinq jours plus tard en terminant second en 10’’05 (1277 points de score) derrière Tim Montgomery (USA) au Grand Prix d’Osaka. Johnson a ainsi progressé de sept places et pointe désormais en 15ème position.
Un autre sprinter qui a impressionné ces quinze derniers jours, a été le Canadien Nicolas Macrozanaris. Ce jeune de 22 ans a créé la surprise en remportant le meeting Banamex de Mexico City à l’occasion duquel il a battu le détenteur du record du monde Tim Montgomery. Macrozanaris a couru en 10’’03 (1244 points de score), un nouveau record personnel qui lui a permis de se hisser à la 19ème place du classement mondial par discipline, soit 8 places de mieux que son précédent classement.
Le lanceur de poids américain Kevin Toth a effectué un jet à 21,24m (1235 points de score) et a remporté les Modesto Relays en Californie durant le week-end. Il prend ainsi la 2ème place du classement par discipline (+1) précédemment occupée par son compatriote John Godina. La première position appartient toujours à un autre Américain, Adam Nelson.
Kelli White fait son retour dans le top 10 du classement du 100m féminin. Elle a terminé deuxième à Osaka en 11’’07 (1271 points de score) et gagne trois places pour apparaître en huitième position.

Sa seconde place au Grand Prix d’ Osaka, avec un temps de 55’’65, (1244 points de score) a valu à la jeune spécialiste des haies, une progression de trois places au dernier classement du 400m haies.
