  • Would anyone be surprised if Asafa won?

I am Firmly not an Asafa fan, the guy has proven time and time again that he's a Brilliant runner and a sad racer/competitor. Despite this I just cn't shake from my head that his PR is a slow looking 9.72 (second fastest time recorded by a human ever excluding wind illegal times) and he is the only guy to beat Usain in a sub 9.9 100m. So I ask myself would it be a biggy if he were to win (no talk about this stupid JAAA entrants list and exclusions ...PLEASE)

Considering that he is a distant third on this years list: Yes.

So this is to be a discussion of his chances of winning a race that as of now he officially is not entered in? Well I was always told u gotta be in it to win it so I'ma go ahead and give him a snowballs chance in hell.

Physically he's a distant third but thats not taking into account the fact that he's quit in damn near ever single race he's run in. What happened to pride and self respect? I say he finished 5th at best because hes gonna see that he's in 3rd placeand quit. Quit! Quit! Quit! Like a quitter.

          It's getting quite embarassing.

In future, promoters should withhold part of his appearance fees if he obviously quits. That dude has some of the best talent and least heart of any athlete in T & F. Are his best days behind him?

He was physically capable of being a multiple Olympic and World Championship gold medalist. Heck, he has run under 10 secs 50+ times and has run some of the fastest times ever recorded. But he never had the mental part of competiton mastered and based on what we have seen this season it looks like that is still an issue. I think he has lost a step this year (injuries not helping) as well and while he could push hard and finish amongst the top 3 in Berlin, he'll likely see that he can't win around the 85m mark and just ease back like he always does. If he is on the team and competes, I would be shocked if he makes it on the medal stand. He is not going to beat Gay AND Bolt, so a gold is out of the question.

He has been out of the medals before, I can see it happening again.

                      The Magic 8-Ball sez:

In the final he'll be out well; he'll accelerate very nicely; he'll be even second with Gay at 50m, Gay will open a small gap; AP will let off and finish 4th behind Bailey.

Where is Bolt in all of this? Gay will open up a small gap on Asafa at the 50m mark leaving Bolt in 3rd (at best)at that point? That magic 8-ball appears to be broken.

even SECOND with Gay---presumably Bolt was the number one...
