Looking at Group B, (supposing both Finns - they'd better! - Vasilevskis if reasonably healthy, Frank and Pyatnytsya beat that) only one of another 12 guys with SBs of eighty plus is allowed to (a group including Janik, Korotkov, Ivanov, Värnik, Oosthuizen etc.) Doesn't look too good...

Looking back at Beijing and Osaka, 79.79m and 79.70m were needed to qualify, I suppose it will be around the same again. If the conditions improve (accounting for a larger crowd too), Kovals and Järvenpää could be in danger of missing the final.

Why not? Hill and Hazle are very unstable (indeed, did Hazle not exceed expectations?). Furey is the one of your guys with a good technique (thanks, of course, to training up here in Finland!) and thus the only one who semi-reliably produces near his top end.

Antti Ruuskanen made the final by 1cm. Makes up for Tommi Evilä missing the final on second best marks yesterday

More news on Pitkämäki's illness. Apparently he was sicker than we'd been led to believe the night before, with 39+, some light vomiting and approx. 2 hours of sleep. He has now been diagnosed with otitis media.

He should be fine. He was a bit off and never felt right. It took 1/2 hour after the warm-ups ended until he again was able to touch a javelin. Endless waiting. 24 throwers in a group is way too much.
With 48 competitors ( more then in any other throwing event) they must go to 3 groups.

While the breaks between throws should be shorter than in the qualification, there will still be interruptions thanks to medal ceremonies. Why can't those be scheduled before (or after) the main program???
