I have good feelings about her chances for a medal. My guess is Galkina will go for another WR, and it's a question of whether the others stay in a second pack behind her. If so then Jenny's chances are good for a medal. She'll have to go sub 9.06 to do it.

I think that 4 athletes will fight for the medals : Galkina, Dominguez, Volkova and possibly Barringer! between these 4 are the 3 medals!

In Osaka, Galkina went out foolishly fast (~3:00 at kilo), despite the heat, and faded away. In Beijing, she never looked back. She will probably go for broke again. Watch out for Dominguez. Barringer is probably good for sub-9:10, but will that win a medal?

Surprising pick for silver as Volkova has not been up to par this year.

                my prediction

                1. Galkina
                2. Dominguez
                3. Barringer

btw, does anyone know what happened to Eunice Jepkorir (OG silver medallist)?

I think Jepkorir is on a maternity break.

                    thanks
hopefully she'll have better return than Inzikuru :?

I'd love to see more Kenyans and Ethiopians in this event. Would be interesting to see if some of their top flat runners could switch (like Dominguez did).

My only concern for Barringer is that her season may have been a bit too long...from a fast 5000m indoors to now. I think she will run well anyway, but she may be a bit jaded and perhaps therefore not at her best.

She looked pretty fresh when she ran 15:05 to win in Stockholm on July 31. She'll be in the hunt for gold with a lap to go--might not win, but I think she's ready for a big one.

Walt I respect your comment...and I hope you are right ,but if she was really fresh and running at her peak she should/could have made that race a run away sub 15:00. She was just over 15:00 indoors months ago...if she was peaked and progressing I would think she'd be running 14:45 now.

But I hope she breaks 9:10 and medals....

Did Barringer scare Willard out of SC for good when she blew by her and broke 4:00 in 1500?

My concern is she has not been doing any SCing on the circuit. She can't learn everything about racing over barriers if she only races on the flat. She has the flat speed to go sub-9:10, but it will be mentally hard for her when Galkina runs another 3:00 opening km. Will she even know what to do in such a situation, given she's never gone faster than 9:22?
