  • Rodriguez also took a single step onto the infield during the mixup. I didn't notice while watching on the PC, but is was very clear after re-watching the race on the big screen TV.

Even if there were no crash, would that have been grounds for a DQ as well?

Saw that and agree. It would have been REAL interesting if Burka didn't go down and Rodriguez still won the race without stepping out of bounds. I'm sure there would have been a protest from Burka's camp for sure and the real fun would have started. I guess justice was served with the DQ. Bitter pill for Burka.

      • While I'm thrilled that 3 Americans were in the final, I was disappointed in the final itself. With the DQ and Burka down, you can move them all back 2 places. I hope that Rowbury's bronze fills her with a confidence she can expand on.

The disappointment is that the 3 Americans were no factor in the final. They were just along for the ride. The were never "in" the race. That said, they are all young and full of promise for the future. Hopefully this was a learning experience for them and they will take that with them into the coming years.

My dear friend you are god ,you have seen a Marta Domínguez in the circuit.
          Please tell me, Where ?
Maybe in Paris or Rome or Oslo .I´m a blind because i watched all the circuit and i don´t remenber to see Marta
Marta run only in Spain by several years ,he run only ones outside of Spain .Which circuit are you talking about
If you talk about major Championship ,where was rough or dirty ,please tell me the race ,may be you have best memory than me .

And Natalia is one of the clearest runners in the world ,he never use the elbows ,in the major Champinships always go at the end of the race to avoid fights .

Who did use the arms ,Natalia or Burka

          Dear Grazerism piss off
I have watched Dominguez for many years (indoor and outdoor championship meets, etc.) and have often seen her use the same "strategy" as Rodriguez: When you decide to kick, always go from the inside curb, and simply push anyone who is in your way out of the way.

And as for your last line: Ask your mother to wash out your mouth with soap.

The level of discourse on this site has really deteriorated. I notice that many of the most informed posters no longer appear here.

          • Ruth, is it your opinion that Rodriguez would have won without the strong arm tactics? Burka looked like she was desperate to hold on and might have faded a bit anyways. Just curious from someone that' s been there.

Gaby: you get to be the poster child for management's distress at how low the level of discourse has fallen on these forums in the last couple of weeks.

Enjoy your vacation (others to follow as we wander through the threads).

And if anybody else wants on that bus, keep up this kind of lowbrow commentary.

                  • I was shouting at the television urging Dobriskey to get past Jamal because she'd be champion. A much better tactical race by Dobriskey, though I hate watching her in case she does something more than usually daft. I suspect Burka would have faded - never been convinced by her abitlity in major championships - but what a crazy act by Rodriguez.

I've heard she tested positive. She's the second Moroccan to be pulled after Chatbi in the 3000m steeplechase. Can't say I'm too surprised and wish she was caught before the champs.

Seems like a clear cut DQ case. But we'll see.
I didn't think it was clear-cut at all. I agreed with the DQ, but if they hadn't I would have agreed with that as well. We've seen (far) worse go unpunished in this meet in earlier years.

While I agree with much of your post I am not quite sure that the "no factor" bit applies. Rowbury was within 2 meters of the lead at the beginning of the final homestretch and who could have asked for more than that (being in a position to win in the final stretch). She didn't have the kick needed but she certainly was there and had an opportunity.

I also hate to assume that Burka be given the free pass as far as how she would have finished. She may have had nothing left and the way the others were coming up to and around her with 200m to go, she may have faltered after having led much of latter part of the race.

                          • I like the pic posted of what appears to be Burka trying to prevent a pass by Rodriquez. It looked to me from the replays that Rodriquez may have had enough room to go through and then I saw that slight shove from her right before Burka went down. If Burka was trying to hold her back then she certainly shares some of the blame and deserved what she got.

imo, Evdokimova made a far more aggressive move than Rodriquez early in the race to surge to the front to get around Wurth Thomas and had she been playing the arm games that Burka did, would may have gone down as well.

                            • i can see why Rodriguez got DQed but what Anita Weyermann did in 1997 was way worse, and she kept her bronze....

still, don't think Burka would've won, she was tiring badly....

                              oh, Lisa Dobriskey so close...

                              • While I hesitate to....I disagree with Ruth W's assessment (albeit her terms "never a factor" and not "in the race" are subject to various definitions).

All these 800s, 1500s (& 5ks,10ks) in these championships appear to be jog the first 60% and wait for the 1st move and final sprint hoping it's your day and the rounds took slightly less from you than competitors.

Christin Wurth was up "in it" from the start and didn't appear to have it on the day when the real racing started. Not a choke, not a wimpy hesitation to be "in it", just not enough left after the rounds apparently.

Willard...maybe I agree with Ruth here...waited to 300m to go and didn't have anything.

But Rowburry--totally disagree unless Ruth defines this as to be a factor she would have had to have medaled despite the DQ and if the incident didn't happen.

5 women were galvanizing for the final sprint with 150m to go in a major championship and she was one of them. We'll never know what the result of the 5 sprints would have been without the incident--and you're saying she was not A FACTOR in the race? Rowbury had to make a side move to avoid the incident and I honestly don't recall if Dobriskey did too such that she did or did not have her momentum halted. i though Rowbury's momentum was at least slightly affected. I don't think it's 100% clear that Burka's final 150m sprint would have put her top 3. We'll never know.

5 women were galvanizing for a mad sprint for 3 medals--to me they were all "in it" and factors in the race.

To me Nick Symmonds was a factor whose final sprint fell short on the day. Even Tegenkamp--didin't the top few run a final 2k of 5:10 and he "failed" by running 5:13?

Um, Manzano and Vessey were not factors nor in it.
