So Jennski is or is not competing? Has she indeed 'not run a step' for a month? I look for Rogo and Pyrek to put some actual pressure on Isi to win, but the winning ht may 'only' be 4.85.

She's not competing, she issued a statement a few days ago and which was reprinted in dozens of articles over the past few days and a press release by USATF.

I sure like Spiegelburg's chances for a medal! She has been performing well the past two years and I think she'll step up and at least get a PR in front of the home crowd.

Don't forget Golubchikova - she is determined to make it to the podium this time!

Hope we don't have to watch any more Jenn Stuczynski commercials during world championships. They had more air time than the actual competition during US meets on TV.

Rogowska injured her foot while training in Berlin. It's nothing too serious, reportedly, but it just might affect her slightly.

The pole vault fields have weakened.4 of the 6 mens and womens olympic medalist look to be out.Add in Rogowska hurt, and hurt more than reported this field is about who is able to jump. You could see 4.70 or even 4.65 medal. This will look more like a grand pre meet not a championship.None the less i still look forward to the mystery of meets when its anyones game. This has become anyones game.I change my predictions for obvious reasons(all my medal picks are hurt but one! I had 1)isi 2)jenn s 3)feofanova 4)Rogowska.Now I really don't know.I say 1)isi 2)anyone 3)anyone 4)anyone left standing. This is the most injuryed field I have ever seen. This is good for us,this will show our depth as a pole vault country. Our two olympic finalist from last year are not even jumping(steiner and jenn s) but all 3 of our girls will make the final and you heard it from me first One will place 3rd.Yes a medal. It is the law of averages with this field we will place one.Our depth will pay off.I will take a shot at the guys later for the same reason,Who is left healthy? This will be a interesting womens comp due to the unknown(its awesome).

[quote="30yrs-coaching"]I don't think we'll even have a sniff of the medal stand (as awesome as it would be if we did get there).

I LOVE being wrong here!!! Bet Jan is one proud papa!!!

Normally I would agree, but other than isi the studs are hurt or out.Medal contenders that are left are few and inconsistent.Pyreck is solid, murer is good in flashes, spiegelbug could get in,and gublochovic (and heaven forgive my spelling for the english critics and grammer guru's).Gublochovic actually still recovering from injury. This leaves 4 that could even jump high enough to medal.Lose 1 or 2 in quaulifier and you are left with 2 in final.Normally there would be 7 studs jumping in 4.70s in final. Our 3 girls will get in the final and we have a very experienced team, that is our strength right now.I think 3RD by one and maybe 5th or 6th by others. This would be a good performance showing our depth.Any competition no matter how big the title depends on the strength of the field. With this field we will place all 3 in the top 8 and medal 1.I put a lot of thought in this but it is still pole vault.Bring it germany and Russia we are ready,Our depth is better.

First your grammar and spelling is positively awful. It's a sign of politeness towards other forum participants to check your post instead of producing such gibberish like "Gublochovic".
Second the medals go to Poland, Russia, Brazil or Germany. US girls often produce some good results but rarely take them to a major champ (not counting Stuczynski). Pyrek, Rogowska, Spiegelburg, Murer and Golubchikova are all rock-solid competitors who will hardly go out below 4.70 and can get up to 4.80. I eat a pole if an US woman wins a medal.

I tend to be rather bearish about the US women, and while I think all three making the final seems unlikely (based on odds more than any one person), I gotta think at this point they have just as good of a chance as anyone of making the podium.

Murer has some big jumps in her, but has only been at 4.60 or less in the past 2 months.

Spiegelburg I think will do well in front of the big crowd, but she's only been 4.70 or better 3 times in her life.

Golubchikova popped a 4.70 once this outdoor season, the rest have been generally been in the 4.50-4.65 range,

Pyrek had three meets over 4.70, but the next three dropped off and she skipped her NCs and hasn't jumped in a meet in 3 weeks which is a tad suspicious, most of the other girs have been in meets more recently.

By no means do I think the US girls are a lock to make the final or medal. If you had asked me a month ago, I would have said no one but Jenn has a prayer. But now it seems like half of the world is hurt. I really do think just about anything could happen. It's within the realm of possibility!

I wish it worked that way, but I'm afeared it don't. I don't think we'll even have a sniff of the medal stand (as awesome as it would be if we did get there).

I am an optimistic realist. If I thought we had a legit shot at a medal, I'd be all over it. As you said, it's a real toss-up, so maybe we WILL get lucky. I have not lost my faith!!!!

                              P.S.
