i'm not making anything up - you can work it out yourselves

bolt's lj woud probably be with 18 - 19 degrees take-off & initial height ( centre of mass ) of 1.30m ( 2/3 of 6'5 )

problem is what to use as his approach speed :

he'd want a 60m run up & he coud be ~ 0.81s speed there = 12.3m/s

problem is how much he has to reduce his speed at take-off to accommodate board/sink hips/etc - also technique worsens considerably with increasing speed ( some of King's jumps were theorectically 9.1m+ if he'd maintained near perfect technique of his 8.50 ones )

it's usually about 10%, but probably nearer 15% with such extreme speed

11.70m/s @ 45 degrees with c.o.m. @ 1.2 m = 15.08m. Maybe a bit further with Bolt's patented new long jump landing. Easy!! Accurate!! Exceptional!! Realistic!!! Where's my prize? :roll: :roll:

i dont know why some are upset this way. i didnt want a cm precise prediction of what is human possible. so called scientists make fool of themselves often enough. what is clear that usain owns a great body with height of nearly 2m. carl was surely known to take profit of his high speed not his great jumping ability.
but usain makes carls 11,23m/s look like easiely beeing beaten by far. if he approaches with 11,50m/s he would be totally relaxed i think. beeing able of just an average take off this would surely be worldclass. bayer was at 10,90m/s at his 8,49m this year. maybe saladino and phillips can reach 11m/s but not much more. and not to forget bolt is looking down on their heads.

i'd assume that bayer 10.9 was approaching the board, but at take-off you have to knock-off 10 - 15% for "adjusting"
( PJ has got some stats in archives - he used to quote speed 5 - 10m from board & then 0 - 5m from board to demonstrate slowing )

bayer had huge angle with his jump - probably about 21 degrees ( range usually 18 - 22 : beamon had 22 & powell similarly in his wr )

just trying figures, bayer gets reasonable figure with 12.5% reduction in speed, 21 degrees & 1.25m initial height ( ? he's shorter than bolt, but probably not by much )

i'm afraid trying to get anywhere without gold standard figures to work on is a fairly thankless task

bayer had 10,62 (11-6) 10,90 (6-1) wind +1.6
he is 1,89m
at his 8,00m in stuttgart wcfinal 2008 he had 19 degrees out of 10,53m/s in second last stride. loss of speed last stride 0.14 and 1.51 for take-off.

Bolt jumped onto the medal rostrum yesterday. Perhaps he was trying to tell us something

the thing is, that we will never see him long jump, aswell as my (jumping coached) 2,04m lithuvinian handball player will sadly never move to highjump.
this is our fate, that most of the giftet athlets join in another sport. and the fastest man on earth has no need to break a jumping world record.
so we can have just interest in calculating him jump.
my thing is, that we have allready seen a speedbased "running" longjumper near 9m.
this one here is faster and taller and propably as strong as king carl was.
coordination should not be the problem.
there have been some discussions about carls reach moving to triple, 400 or decathlon. so just a matter of fun.

LJ for Bolt could be the dumbest decision in the history of the sport. Everything to lose, nothing to gain. Potential for injury totally outweighs any benefits... I'd guess Marion Jones used to long jump in junior high, too. And when she jumped as a world-class athlete she used junior high technique.
