Quarrie says, Campbell-Brown ‘attacked us’ at meeting
Y'all don't "surmise and gossip" about the US relays, huh?
You must be new here.
As for the VCB thing...is Danny McFarlane "surmising and gossiping" about the issue and JAA?
What about Quarrie?
What about Franno?
We do not gossip about behind the scenes happenings with your relay team. In the spirit of competition we might jeer about what happens on the actual track (like dropping a baton)... but we don't speculate on why you guys keep getting disqualified.
Danny McFarlane said his side of the story. I didn't see him quoted as saying MVP or any other entity influenced proceedings one way or another.
[quote=guruof track] But the truth of the matter is, this issue is MUSH bigger than winning medals.
But I don't really get your point. You seem to be talking in circles in your post.
These are your words that seem to contradict each other:

There is something going on between JAAA and MVP and its now affecting the other athletes. I for one am disgusted that more isn't being done to squash this before it gets bigger and does start affecting our medal totals.

but all of this "ohing" and "ahing" as if there is some huge ominous shadow over Jamaican track and field isn't really necessary and isn't the truth. .
Seems like you can't have it both ways. All I have done is read articles from the jamaican observer. Starting with MVP missing mandatory camp and being DQed from competing, then JAAA had an intervention, then the Franno diatribe ( I won't even go into what the diatribe stemmed from), then the VCB/relay fiasco, then VCB goes on record defending herself, then Quarrie does a rebuttal to save face, only to have Danny McFarland come out and make VCB first point and make Quarrie look not so truthful.
But hey if you think we are casting some 'huge ominous shadow over Jamaican track and field' thats your right as an American. Opps, I mean Jamaican.[/quote:anu817eg]
I actually can have it both ways. Watch me:
Yes. The JAAA has to tighten up ship and address certain things that went on surrounding athletes attending camp and the relays etc. Does this also mean that JAAA and Jamaica's athletes are on the road to a spiraling decrease in influence in the sphere of world sprinting? No. No one association is perfect... we can all improve and we all have challenges to face and overcome... including Jamaica. But Jamaica and it's athletes are still in great shape.
When did you become the voice for all Jamaicans?? Mi tink tat Stephen Francis tinks otwa wise.
And these articles were poste in the Jamaican Observer, not by some US journalist. Check the record. Well Quarrie did talk to media outside Jamaica, but thats not helping your point either.
I have always been a voice of the Jamaican track fan. Ask TrackDaddy... we have had our run ins before.
None of the articles insist that Jamaica's track and field is going to go downhill because of this recent episode.
I've read every article and newspaper report on this issue. I've also gone through most of the responses in this thread............and I just don't get it. I don't get why it was OK for her to do what she did.
I would assume a majority of you are from the old school where athletes actually listened to coaches. I know it is becoming the norm in this day and age where the star athlete get's what he/she wants. Again, I agree that VCB was put in a bad spot. She had prepared for one thing and she was told she had to take something else.
But I liken this to when Scottie Pippen decided to sit out the last play of a game for the Bulls (when MJ was out of the game for a while) because he did not like Phil Jackson setting up Toni Kukoc for the last shot. Pippen had earned that shot. As the team's leader and best player I'm pretty sure he thought he should have the ball in his hand for the final play. But Jackson decided it was best to go with Kukoc in that spot. Sure enough Kukoc hit the buzzer beater. So was Pippen justified to sit out?
She had a legitmate complaint against the folks in charge, but an athlete of her "class" should have done what was best for the team. If she walked out on an individual event, that's one thing. But remember she had several other girls counting on her participation. Turns out (luckily) that VCB was not needed. But if she was all about "class" she would have represented her country and helped her country where she could and then dealt with with the problems after.
VCB running the 3rd leg without practice (w/Bailey on the opening leg) or Bailey on 3rd leg and Facey on the opening leg?. I can't imagine anyone with any common sense would suggest that the lineup run in the final would be better than if VCB ran an unpracticed 3rd leg.....
Just because VCB is a Jamaican , does not make the Jamaican relay controversy exclusively Jamaican. VCB is an international track star that has numerous fans and admirers all over the world. If it is the humble opinion of these many fans, not just in the US but world wide than she got screwed by the JAAA, we have every right to voice our opiion.

Thats how batons get dropped. When injured runners run in spots they havent practiced for. If VCB felt that it was better for her not to run then that was her decision. The fact that there wasn't any competition in the race to press us probably factored in to her decision.
Actually it isnt all that unusual that the Jamaican fans arent discussing it. The general attitude is a bit propagandist when it comes to issues like this. Just check the "surface" responses in this thread.
Besides they've been busy discussing the US relay which by the way...you've now mentioned for the second time in a thread about Jamaica track and field.
Since they're busy... we're taking up the slack.
Besides, the US relay team issues have been discussed ad nauseum.
Really too bad they ended up in this thread too.
We are discussing it. It's our problem. I'm not at liberty to discuss it here...not that I have anything against any of you here, but I get better feedback from like minded individuals whose main underlying objective is not to see her disrobe...if you get what I mean.
I for one wouldnt be surprised if she leaves to run for someone else.
I think she sees the writing on the wall if she hadnt seen it before.
Her services are no longer appreciated in Jamaica and she has to wonder if they ever were.
As I've said over and over...she was winning gold for her country when no one else could.
But ever since trials 08...there hasnt been a lot of love for the "former" queen of Jamaica track and field by JAA or the fans for that matter.
Out with the old (at age 27?!?! :? ) and in with the new.
How soon they've forgotten you, Veronica!!!
I wonder if Merlene has phoned her yet?
This is not true.. jamaicans have shown their love for her.. if they had their own way fraser would not have been an olympic championnn.. cause veronica would have been in her spot,,
secondly merlene was never abandoned in fact up to this day .. i believe thatputting her ahead of peta gaye dowdie destroyed that girls career,, Merlene left i think cause she loved running and would not want any hindrance as there were up and coming runners at the time.

Now that she is pretty much retired, has Merlene come back?
All I have done is read articles from the jamaican observer.
That paper isn't the most unbiased when it comes to track and anything that is remotely related to MVP. Without delving too much into detail, there is someone within the parent company of that paper that has an intense dislike for persons within that particular camp.

Well tf is Jamaica still loves VCB why is she getting all the criticism?
If you ask Danny McFarlane this all started last year (like I said even before I read his quote).
VCB was bumped from anchor by "other forces" that we all know is from Franno.
Read this thread and see who you think is getting the blame.
It seems like last year when VCB was defeated at trials many on these forums turned on her.
I want to USA to challenge us. I love the Gays and Felix's of the world....however I wouldn't mind that with Sanya bleeding Black, Green and Gold....huh, huh...wink wink nudge nudge.
