  • so who's left in the women's AOY hunt?

Isi's flameout narrowed the field a bit.

If we say you have to be the WC and undefeated, we left with

    Felix
    Richards
Dominguez (but is a 3-race season worthy?)
    Masai (only 2 races)
Kaniskina (3 races, and in an event that gets no love)
    Savigne
    Vili
    Ennis (2 meets)

    Lemme see, lemme see....uhm....

    Sanya!

Not sure what you mean by undefeated but...

She did lose her opening race in Jamaica and a 200 to Felix; and Felix lost a 400 to Sanya and a few 100m races.

But I still pick Sanya. Maybe her and Allyson can share the prize.

I'd say they need to be leading the world as well. At the moment, that eliminates Masai and Savigne (though after Berlin, that 15.14m looks awfully 'lucky'.)

For me, it's between Richards and Ennis.

Ennis has far fewer opportunities, but I think it's tough to use that against her - she's competed twice, and both scores were world leading, and would have won the WC. She led from gun to tape in Berlin - when was the last time a heptathlete did that?

On gh's above statement - when is the 'undefeated' bit starting? Didn't Richards lose to Novlene or Shericka in Jamaica at the start of the season, or am I making that up? :?

I'd be happy to see either win, with an obvious preference for Jess.

So happy that it won't be Isi this year, thank goodness.

Probably but she's done more than enough to make up for it!

And Kaniskina lost a 10km walk in Krakow and Masai was beaten by Kiplagat at the World Cross.

I'd agree. The early season or one off loses should not be deal breakers.

Sorry, assumed it was obvious that "undefeated" meant only in the WC event. Losing in some secondary thing shouldn't be a factor at all. (And we don't include XC at all anyway in our AOY deliberations)

Although she wasn't in that many meets, if Caster Semenya is cleared by the IAAF, shouldn't she deserve some consideration.

she wasn't on my list because she wasn't undefeated.

When I saw the title of the post, my 3 quick names were Vili, Felix and Richards.

My prediction.... Felix and Richards split the
"US vote" and Vili sneaks in ahead of them.

If I had a vote myself, it would be for Felix.

Surely Richards is more worthy than Felix?
