If true, that's indeed a travesty.

I second that; she was devastated by what happened as well, from the look on her face (and from modest celebration at the finish). Burka is absent.

This is from the IAAF on Zurich:

Which brings us to the only event on the Zürich schedule we haven’t so far covered the women’s 1500m, and with national emotions still running high in both Ethiopia and Spain over the incident which left Gelete Burka prostrate on the track with half a lap to run and Natalia Rodríguez ultimately disqualified - neither runner is in the invitational field in Zürich - this is perhaps the best moment for the now double World champion Maryam Jamal of Bahrain to show why she is the world leader this year, 3:56.55, and so help us get our minds back on the running.

I agree. I'm not defending what Rodriguez did but it seemed like she had a rush of blood to the head and immediately regretted what she did. I've watched Rodriguez on a number of occasions and she's not a disruptive runner.

I've seen far worse incidents on a running track which have not resulted in a disqualification, such as the women's 1500m final at the European Indoors in '05.

Could someone clarify if whether the step out of bounds was, by itself, enough to DQ her (given that she was not on the receiving end of a push/fall)?

Dobriskey and Willard both go sub 4 mins!!

No, it was on the straight as far as I could tell.

Dobriskey dives for the inside again, and gets trapped in a box, you could see her itching to go but was completly trapped !!

Makes it more interesting in a way, in that she still has faster in her than that.

Great PB though, 2nd on the British all time lists, only 3.57.90 by Kelly Holmes is is front of her...

That brings the total number sub-4:00 performers this year to 8 - best season in quite a while (since 1998, possibly?)

Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that three women from the US would go sub-4 and none of the three would be Rowbury. (so far)

But I suspect she wouldn't trade her medal for it!

After being very sound in Berlin Lisa's race was again slightly dodgy tonight and yet still she runs 3.59

                              Be afraid!!!
