  • '09 Brussels 4 x 1500: WR For Kenya

Does anyone know if the U.S. will field a team for the men's 4 x 1500 in Brussels?

with Lomong, Manzano and Lagat, we'd give the Kenyans and everyone else a run for their money.

who would be the 4th guy? Tegenkamp? Symmonds? Ulrey? ???

anybody know what teams will be entered?

bump. As I read about the kenyan team and its breaking of the WR in the 4x800 i am reminded of that race where the USA took them to the wire. If we get some *good* solid guys out there 4x3:40 isnt unreasonable

I've said it before, I'll say it again: scrap the World Cup and replace it with a national-team all-relay meet. 'Twould be fantastic.

French had an all-national relay team in the late '70s or early '80s, which had some decent nations (U.S. 4 x 15 record still dates back to that meet). Believe it lasted two years. A financial disaster as I recall.

The rest of the world just doesn't embrace the relays the same way the U.S. does.

You may have something there. The USA vs the World events at the Penn Relays always ignites the crowd. Now if the concept could be expanded. hmmm

Have the team members been announced? Seems that would help....oh what's the word....PROMOTE the event.

                  Ha!

We embrace relays. Just not relay practice.

Lagat and Lomong not running. Don't believe Manzano is either, but I don't know that for a fact.

Fair enough, but sporting events do not live by ticket sales alone.

agreed and considering most people are reading this are "informed", how if 'we' dont know the teams would anyone else?

Steve Sherer is on the US team. I believe David Torrence is on it to, but not for sure. Other than that, who knows.

I'm thinking this wasn't a well in advanced planned thing on who is running.

You're all missing the bigger picture. The meet's aim is to get a World Record. They have a Kenyan team that's well capable of so doing. They don't need anything more.

They're not going to go out and spend money building strong rival teams. This is all about getting the record, nothing else.
