I know...you're entirely right. I keep tabs on the British scene and it's been pretty barren in the last decade or so... I recommend a stiff upper lip--I'm not sure what else will be of any use. (However, it's way too early to count Radcliffe out of it; she knows which races matter and which don't.)Comment

I was thinking the same (seeing as this time last year she ran it a whole 20s faster), but her 2004 season is going to be geared entirely different to her 2003 season.
Last year, her main focus was the London Marathon, and so she had to peak early in the year. This year, her main focus is the gold in Athens, and so she'll be taking her time to make sure everything goes right.
Plus, it's not like 30:45 is a crap time! It's still a bloody good performance! Also, the fact that she was beaten by Lornah isn't too much of a big deal, as Lornah is one of the best road-runners in the world. Another good point is that Paula soundly beat Maragaret Okayo - one of her would-be challengers for the Olympic Marathon title.
Paula will be going back to her altitude training in New Mexico to prepare for the WXCh, where she'll hopefully perform better. Even if she doesn't win, there's plenty of time to go before Athens....Comment
