  • REVENGE!!!!

After Isi's sensational comeback in Zurich, who else that either flopped horribly or just plain lost the the WC's needs to find some kind of redemption before the end of the season???

My number one pick would be Lashinda who was solidly beaten in the 400h despite going in as a heavy favourite. Melaine was magnificent but it was plain to see that Demus' last 2 hurdles went tits up and something shonky happened around hurdle 7 as well (I only saw it live in stadium so haven't had the chance to study in detail. Did she go out too fast?)

It's one thing to lose because the other person is superior but much worse to do so when you know you have't run to the best of your capabilities. Many were predicting a Lashinda WR and whilst she ran well it would have been a MUCH closer race without those mistakes and we may have even had a different result.

Can she do an Isi and stamp her authority by seasons end???

Others that could do with a good last few meets include....

Mesrat - To lose one was unlikely to lose twice was unimaginable!!! A 5k world record is on order.

Natalia Rogrigues - Her DQ was entirely justified (What was she thinking???) But it was hard not to feel some sympathy for the disconsolate figure who crossed the finish line on the biggest moment of her life knowing it wasn't going to last. And even more sympathy has to go to Burka who very well may have won without the fall (Jamal deffo wasn't going to off that pace with those kickers waiting). Don't know what the Weltaklasse organisers were thinking but someone needs to put on a Natalia, Geleta, Maryam, Lisa etc re-run immediately.

    Gerd - 3rd who'd a thunk it???

Naide - That's 2 champs in a row she's cocked up. I'd like to at least see a big PB by the end of the year.

Who else needs to redeem themselves????

Maggie Vessey. After finally figuring out how to run a 1:57, she goes and #&^%$ it up in the Berlin semis. She'd do well to get, or set, or force a fast pace in Brussels and try for Jearl Miles-Clark's AR (1:56.40).

she got beat by a gal jumping 7.10 with 7cm to spare on the board

naide's best is 7.12 with more wind

she wouda needed to essentially pb to win, so losing is no disgrace - put 7.10 on the board & you expect to win in this day & age

most are expecting britney to go 7.20+ next year ( she was only 3cm off it ) - a level beyond naide

Naide didn't just lose to the winner. She didn't come in. Close 2nd. She went in as favourite and ended up 5th!!!

I don't care how long Mampy McFarlane can go (On pure potential alone) I'll never be a fan until she actually learns how to jump. What a mess!!! To paraphrase Jon - She's not a long jumper, she just jumps long.

Asbel Kiprop - after running a poor tactical race in the 1500m final (probably the Isinbayeva syndrome) and crashing out in the 800m semi-final, he should have proved he was the best middle-distance runner in the world in Berlin. I don't think he has too much left in the tank left this season but he's more than capable of a sub-3:30 clocking.

Gerd Kanter - never believed he would finish third but probably too many early season competitions and too much talk of the WR. Only fourth in Tallinn after Berlin too.

Irving Saladino - just plain stupid.

Sally McLellan - looked so good on the circuit but seemed to have no zip in Berlin. Probably too many competitions again.

Wasn't she nursing a back injury that she kept quiet about - there was that Aussie article which basically ripped her apart for 'lying' to the fans, and promoting Hooker for his honesty about his injury

Mampy McFarlane? What the hell is that?

There are plenty of 6.30 jumpers with exquisite technique who would love to be in Reese's shoes.

Apparently, by Jon's standards Paula Radcliffe isn't a distance runner, just someone who runs far fast.

                    No revenge for Lashinda

I was really looking forward to the matchuo between Melaine and Lashinda.I really hoped that Melaine would have broken the WR tommorow.Oh well maybe we will have to wait till next year ar atleast the World Athletics Final as Lashinda is out with a hamstring.

Add Krisztian Pars to the list - long unbeaten streak, multiple throws over 80m but flops in the final. I was expecting Kozmus to win but I really didn't expect Pars to finish outside the medals completely.

lashinda is obviously #1 in this respect.

                          tero.

                          wariner.

                          trammell.

melkamu (the look of horror on her face as she crosses the finish line is still stamped on my mind...).

                          lavillenie.

                          maybe van zyl.

                          US 4x100 relays...

Her technique seems to work well enough for her for now. Wonder what she and her coaches reaction was / will be when they hear about Dwight's comments on that technique. I agree 7.20 is probably there right now.
