is 292nd performance of all time, but well for some events it almost as bad (400mh KCs win in Berlin was 196th of all time)

Talk about peaking for a major and then dropping off.

Two races with differing incentives perhaps?

Simple. Different incentives. Different importance. Different preparation and focus and general caring. Add all of that to the fact that Melanie fancied herself as a world class sprinter and HATES 400m training.

Kerron and Fraser lost in Zurich too and didn't Jackson lose here to Isa?
It really is not that surprising for world championship winners to be somewhat unmotivated at this time.

Isinbayeva OTOH came with a world record ...
She seemed unmotivated at the WCs so that's unusual and unfortunate.
Maybe the sport became too routine for her and she needed that loss.

I can accept that, but thats still seems like a steep drop off, no?

Maybe the conditions were bad? Who knows, but I would still expect her to win the race. Maybe I just expect to much.
