It really is not that surprising for world championship winners to be somewhat unmotivated at this time.

Isinbayeva OTOH came with a world record ...
Kerron and Jackson lost at worlds. FYI.

I can accept that, but thats still seems like a steep drop off, no?

Maybe the conditions were bad? Who knows, but I would still expect her to win the race. Maybe I just expect to much.
If your last big run was more than two weeks ago and you did nothing but party and sleep and talk on the phone?

Might her times also be linked to her not running on the 4x400m relay team? Injured? Or she just hates running the distance?

Not impossible... would explain why she never factored in to the relays.

i also wondered if the Berlino fall incident is what kept he out of the 4x400.

Conditions are good. About 25 degree, 42% humidity, without significant wind.

the fact remains that they did not WIN worlds. period.

Furthermore Isa season best is 48.0x he ran 48.5x here, thats not a MAJOR drop off. Batman's is 47.9x and he ran 48.8x thats a little more of a drop off (not major though), but considering he has a bad hammy.

Kerron and SAF ran 10.9x and 11.0x respectively, not their best, but not a MAJOR drop off either.

Maybe Melaine had a problem in the race, cramp maybe? I don't buy the she jut got lazy thing.

Well then look no further than SAF for an example of a World Champion who ran well below their time at the championships in a subsequent meet.

As for the lazy factor... not saying she is lazy, but if you know Melanie you also know how much she actually hates the 400 distance and would much rather run the sprint hurdles if she could only manage to medal in them.

                        After 2nd attempt Cantwell 21.69, Majewski 21.41.
Blanka 1st attempt clearence 2.05, she will now probably try 2.10 once again.

Edit: no, 2.08 is her next height.

I think it was. It looks like it was here on stadium, but I'm not sure.
