Hey Jon...what were the most exciting events? We don't get to see it over here until next weekend (and only a 1 hour show, my Dad in Australia was watching live for 3 hours a day). How close was Isinbayeva to 5m? I saw a photo posted purporting to be the closest attempt. Looked like she'd cleared it so I wondered if it was actually the wrong pic.

Always difficult to say which were the most exciting events (especially when there's British athletes involved!!). I was going absolutely crazy during Jo Fenn's race and was absolutely chuffed (but not at all surprised) that she medalled. I didn't even notice all the pushing and shoving between Mutola and Ceplak going on - I was watching Jo the whole time!!

The distance races (1500-3000) all had poor winning times, but the men's 1500 and the women's 3000 races were great ones (although the distances weren't good from a Brit perspective... Kelly falling, Jo Pavey messing up tactics, Mike East getting DQ'ed). However, give me a tactical affair over a fast, run-away easy-to-predict win anyday!

I felt that the 200m track wasn't a great one, as all the events held on there produced slow-ish times (granted, 50.19 by Nazarova isn't slow, but it's a good deal down on her 49.68). However, the flast surface track was super-fast. This didn't really show in the 60m, but in any event which involved jumping (by that, include PV and 60mH), the results were amazing!!

Best competition (in terms of depth) in women's TJ
First time 8 men have been over 8m in a WICh
First time 3 women have been over 6.92m in a WICh
WRs in both men's and women's TJ
WR in women's PV (plus first ever 5m attempt)
Four women under 7.87 in 60mH (best ever!!)
Four men under 7.50 in men's 60mH (only happened once before in Barcelona '95)

Very tough call as to which was the most exciting. As I said, Jo's medal and national record was absolutely great, but I also love seeing WRs. Lebedeva was the star of the championships and both the women's LJ and TJ were great competitions. The women's PV was superb too (I take back all my comments made last year about Dragila being 'past it'.) Isinbayeva's attempts at 4.90m and 5.00m were pretty good ones (apparently she has the bar set at these heights in training... as does Feofanova), and she seemed to get enough height for them to suggest that she's capable of pulling off a big jump in future. However, they were still quite a way off and she'll need a few more competitions to get to 4.90m.

If Athens has good vaulting conditions, then it will take 4.90m to win. The 16ft barrier should go this year. (5.00m will probably happen 2005-2006).

Good to hear it's going to an avid collector! (It's way too good to be sold!!)

I'm guessing you're based in Italy? Good job I got Gibilisco and Fiona May on there!

            Congratulations!
