  • Brussels: Bolt 200m / Gay 100m

The word in the Belgium media is that Gay will do 100m in Brussels (his doctor will not let him run the 200m) and Usain wil go for the 200m.

Of course Bolt is dodging Gay. I'm sure he is scared of another ass-whooping by Gay.

If he is, its because he's tired now, and he knows he'll have a fight on his hands.

Let's hope that Tyson isn't tired as well. Isn't Asafa in the race with him?

The whole ducking thing is WAY over blown, Tyson isn't ducking Usain and Usain isnt ducking Tyson.

I don't think either are trying to duck each other. Bolt has already beat gay so move on simple as.

All this talk of ducking is just straight BS. Is it that some of us are so patriotic due to Usain’s dominance that we want to see him beat Tyson at every 100m met so we (Jamaicans) can gloat? I personally like Tyson’s strategy of avoiding his main rival during a championship year. As a fan it makes the showdown at the majors more “highly anticipated”. I personally love the suspense and drama leading up to the clash. In 2006 Asafa was trashing Tyson at every met (if I remember correctly he was unbeaten for that year). Come 2007 championship year Tyson avoided him. If Tyson had race Asafa prior to Asaka most of us probably would have guessed Tyson would have won as we would have seen his improvement head to head prior to Asaka. I personally thought the gold medal was guaranteed for Asafa all through the rounds leading up to the final. The rest we all know is history.

This year Usain was the big man coming off last year’s performances. Tyson did the same thing as in 2007 and we were all left wondering about the clash. If they were racing each other prior to Berlin most of us wouldn’t have had the same level of excitement on Sunday, August 16th at 2:35pm. We could have all bloody well been asleep as we would have been pretty much sure of the result. Thanks to Tyson we all had to watch.

I know the times were already predicting the victor as they don’t lie. If the difference in times was .02s with one guy running into a headwind almost all the time and the other guy has a tailwind all the time. It was clear as day who was the faster of the two. I know some on here don’t subscribe to basic times but it is ok to bury one’s head in the sand sometimes. It’s not just about us fanatics as I would have thought we would have wanted to draw countless more fans to the sport. The anticipation and excitement does that right?

If these guys were racing each other on the circuit there wouldn’t be any great hype by the media about the “highly anticipated” clash between the defending World Champion and the Olympic Champion. The winner would have been more obvious.

Don’t worry about the ducking as I’m sure they will be racing each other a lot next year as it won’t be a championship year………..

Allow me to repeat: much of what the public perceives as "ducking" is a simple matter of economics. Very few meets can afford two such superstars and even fewer can come up with a package that their handlers will find suitable to stage a meeting.

The best analogy is boxing.... sometimes it takes forever to get the conditions right for heavyweights to go head-to-head.

No matter how it's explained, certain folks on here consider Tyson as ducking, which is absurd.

                            It's immature.
And like gh said, there's the money factor involved too.
Sure would be nice to hookem up at Penn for a 4X1 re-do.
