I smell an upset. Young Quow looking very keen and hungry for the scalp of one of the big two. Today may be the day.

On the other hand, Wariner has stated that he wants to break the stadium record currently held by Michael Johnson. He would have to improve upon his previous season best quite a bit if he wants to run faster than 44.06.

Wariner needs to break 44-flat if he doesn't want to end up with his worst seasonal best since.... 2003!

MJ broke 44 for 9 straight years. Will Wariner end up stuck at just 4?

Not sure if breaking 44, really matters in the scheme of things.

He still has a few more chances in places like Thessaloniki and maybe Shanghai and/or Daegu, where the weather should be more conducive to fast times than what he had to deal with in Brussels.

Is this race over? What was JW's time assuming he won?

                    He won in 44.94.

I'm not surprised at him having his worst season since he was a college frosh - after he left Hart, that clobbered him. I think he can climb back in there (sub 44 territory) with a full year under Hart's watchful eye, but some of that is of course related to JW's mental state. LM was 'down' a bit too this year. He's the kind of runner who needs a top rival to key off of to bust 44 I believe.

When is some new kid gonna show up and take over the event? (not Bolt)

If Kirani James continues to improve at a similar pace he has up to this point, it might not take too long before he is among the best and maybe even challenging Merritt and Wariner.

Quow always waits too long IMO.

I doubt it happens this year although you couldnt have convinced me of that two months ago.

I think Speedfirst is right; in the grand scheme I'm not sure where this resides.

If he has one of his worst statistical years and still ends of with WC silver and gold, it says alot about where he's been. Personally I believe he'll get back there.
