It is fantastic! David Rudisha was unhappily eliminated in the WC semi-final, but he came on to prove his class! Most people neglected him, impressed by Abubaker Kaki, but Rudisha proved he has still something to show. And given the fact that he is still young, we will see a lot of interesting 800m rivalries in the next year.

I was rather disappointed with the 800 this year because it was shaping up to be one of the outstanding events for a lot of years to come with the emergence of Kaki, Rudisha and Kiprop and there are also others who are at least capable of sub 1.43 as shown in this race and previously.

Didn't quite expect him to move up to #4 all-time this season, but he has shown to be in great form after the WC and this didn't come out of nowhere.

Which one gets #1 in year-end rankings? Will be a pretty subjective call IMO (unless something even more amazing happens of course).

Really impressive. To achieve a top 10 all-time performance in this event these days is a pretty big deal.

Would have loved to see Kaki in this race

Rudisha is only 6 months older than Kaki, so they might well have a good rivalery for a few years to come.

Seconded - what a run. Apparently, 1:41.10 is not so far out of reach as I had previously thought.

What made it even more impressive is that the pacemaking wasn't all that good. Killu took a little too long to get to the inside, probably tried to make up for it and went out too fast in the next 200. Rudisha was basically running most of the race from up front and still had enough left to finish strong.

Exactly. In fact, it looked pretty much like what some here would call a "real" race--the top 3 were all in it with 150 to go.

The sub-13s, the 2.08, the 1:42.01...all these suggest that the season should NOT end with the Worlds/Olympics, as discussed elsewhere. But I think it should be a small number of meets in a short period of time so that most of what we see are the athletes who still have gas left in the tank.
