How does 2009 stack up historically for the number of significant distance records set by Americans? I'm sure I'm missing some but by memory we have (on the men's side):
- indoor WJR at the mile - Fernandez (also the AJR, obviously)
- Two AJRs at 5,000 (Derrick and Fernandez)
- Indoor 5,000 AR (Rupp)
- Outdoor 5,000 AR (Ritz)
I count at least six World, American, Junior or Open records, nearly all at 5,000.
My question is, is this a record number of records?
