    Re: long jumpers

I think Pamela Simpson is a talented ljer. She is very underestimated, but believe me she will be in the mix when the trials get here.

Yeah Brian Johnson looks like he is a favorite for the olympic team now also, It will be a great competition at the Trials. I would still like to see one of the collegiates sneak in there and make it!

    Re: long jumpers

If Brian Johnson gets his speed back I don't think there's anyone out there that can touch him including Stringfellow. If all the U.S. long jumpers are on during the olympic trials it will make for some great competition.

The site just says Mason broke team policy. Hopefully he will be back soon. I still think he's a national contender and olympic hopefull.

Manny, you really are a track nut huh? But yeah it seems as if Mason is getting better each year, we will have to see what he does at the trials. Hope he does well.

I did a quick check myself on Matt Mason. I wouldn't say he just came out of the wood work with a 26+ jump.
2001 as a Freshman at FSU
    110H 14.32, 400H 50.16, LJ 24'5 1/2"

    2002 - 400H 50.58, 25'7 1/4"

    2003 - 400H 51.09, 25'3 1/2"(injured)

    2004 - 26'6 1/4"i, 25'5 1/4"
Maybe he's one of the few long jumpers that is actually getting better with age or who knows, maybe he's just healthy. Either way he seems to be a serious contender for the olympic team in some event.

I even pulled this up on a brief search.

    >Why is Harden still running? That guy needs to give it up.>>

I just noticed in the second to last issue of TFN I got that he is one of those lucky few who because of past performance at a high level has an exemption to run in the Trials even without a qualifier if he wants. At age 102, or whatever he is, I would be quite happy to slug it through one last season just for another chance to attend the big dance. Or the almost-big dance.

Im not trying to put anything past Davis, of course he will be in the running also. But I just dont think he will cut it this year only becasue he has not posted a big jump yet this year.
