Valley City State announced Tuesday that it’s adding cross country and track and field to its athletic offerings.
The move will give the Vikings six new varsity teams – men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor track and men’s and women’s outdoor track.
All teams will be added for the 2010-2011 school year.

Valley City State had offered track and cross country, but discontinued the programs following the 2002-2003 school year.
Prior to that, VCSU had offered women’s cross country and track since the early-1970s, and men’s track teams have records dating back to 1935.
Six of eight teams in the Dakota Athletic Conference currently offer cross country and track.
“We were kind of without by not sponsoring with them,” Pumroy said. “Track is a pretty big sport in North Dakota we have kind of been remiss by not having it.”
