Deena Drossin will lead a special sub-2:40 pacing iniative at the 2003 NYC
Marathon on Sunday, November 2 to help U.S. women achieve the U.S. Olympic
Trials "A" Standard of 2:39:39. Drossin, who will not run a complete fall
marathon, will take 10 to 12 U.S. women through the 25-K mark of the race on
the 59th Street Bridge.
The group will be called "Team Deena." In her own words, here is why she is
doing it:
"I am so thrilled to be able to return to the New York City Marathon in
attempt to help my friends and fellow marathoners acquire the 'A' standard.
I learned very quickly that pack running and team enthusiasm are essential
for successful racing."
I'm now recruiting U.S. women who want to get the benefit of being
personally paced by the current U.S. record-holder for 10,000m and the
marathon. Travel and lodging assistance is available, and I'm most likely
to assist athletes who have already run in the low-2:40's in the past 18
months.
