The promos department at NBC thanks you.

    Kidding. Thanks for the heads-up.

Re: Long Jumpers on Jay Leno tonight

I couldn't find any mention of long jumpers on the Tonight Show website, so I hope they're not part of the segment titled "Dog Diving Man vs. Beast." We've already seen Jesse Owens (and John Capel) race horses.

Katy Couric is still "trading places", right?
maybe she invited them. She was a jumper in high school, I think.....anybody have access to her p.r. or honors won?

I predict NBC will interrupt the "live" interview of the athletes and cut away to a "touchy feely" taped interview, and later show partial highlights but not the whole performance....

It was Shawn Crawford who raced the animal. Unfortunately, the zebra was just "too focused" to give up the title.

Well, I was right -- that's exactly what it was. Oh well, it was kind of amusing. ("There's no such thing as bad publicity," I keep telling myself.)

Re: Long Jumpers on Jay Leno tonight

Hey, it wasn't that bad. It seemed as if the audience was rooting for the dogs, however.

Seinfeld got in some good quips.

The big question is does Stringfellow's 27-4 go on the U.S. list? :-)

What was the great line he once had on his show about the New York Marathon? "One Kenyan man, one Norwegian woman and 12,000 losers"?

                  Something like that.

Re: Long Jumpers on Jay Leno tonight

Yes, Stringfellow did and the run-up was long enough but Jenny Adams looked pretty lame. She can forget about water jumping. All the folks I talk to in Water Jumping circles always say that it is no good going with the Hitch Kick and that the Hang is way better. Well, Stringfellow may have proved them right but I sure don't get it. The dogs were just so-so althoug one of them clearly got ripped off. These dogs can't hold a candle to the Portuguese water dogs that jump into the cove at Pac Bell Park in their lame attempts to retrieve the balls before the kayakers. But two of them are over 25ft and might go 26 before the All- Star break, but of course no threat to Stringfellow. It gets pretty tired with their constant whining about the waves.

stringfellow seems to be in excellent form
i doubt the measurement was accurate, but it doesn't matter because he beat phillips one of his main competitors by a bunch. the run up was less than half of what he would do in a regular long jump competition. i think sevante will go mid 28 this year.
o remember the line in the one-on-one matchip six years ago "if they want to prostitute the sport, they should at least do it correctly". i think it was more positive this time, as the casual fan and non fan learned a few things about long jumpers and the athletes.
