Paul Kipsiele Koech also smashed the (admittedly rarely run) indoor 2000m steeple world best with 5:17.04. Previous mark (5:23.89) was set 27 years ago by Sergey Yepishin, but that isn't even the Russian record now as Andrey Farnosov clocked 5:21.56 behind Koech.

Re: G. Dibaba 4:04.80 pb in Gent
i just read an article on justina heslop who stayed with tirunesh tibaba when heslop was in ethiopia and she said t. dibaba has 5 sisters and a brother, her older sister e. dibaba was the 2004 olympic silver medalist in the 10k and g. dibaba now 18 already a 2 time world junoir champ, the article said she has a 15 year old sister meseret, though the article did not say if she is a runner, and did not mention the ages of the others, but i was thinking if meseret dibaba is a runner and if the other siblings are runners odds are they would be good, it would be like a little dynasty of runners in that family, not to mention t. dibaba's husband sileshi sihine and her aunt derartu tulu.

It's amazing that the previous world junior indoor 1500m best (Dulecha's 4:09.76) stood for 13 years. Then, just like waiting for a bus, two amazing junior perforances come along in quick succession (first Kalkedan, now Dibaba).

Steph Twell would have had a shot at it if she put her mind to it, but it would only have ever lasted a year or two with this new Dibaba around. Have we found Ethiopia's new 1500m star to put Burka under pressure over the next few years?
