  • Reaction to the Takahashi decsion

Everyone likely knows that she was left off the marathon team. Someone on TC that lives in Japan said that it was the number one item on the nightly news summary and the prime minister weighed in on it. People were lined up on the streets waiting for the special edition sports papers to come out. The poster said it would have been like Gretzky being left off Team Canada.

Yet the Japanese don't pay that much attention to marathoning according to some.

Fair is not always best. If Coe had been an American in '84, he would have been left off the team. He finished out of the the top 3 at the trials, but was selected to go anyway, because of his credentials. He goes on to make history.

The top 2 spots at the trials should be guarenteed with the third up to decision.
