Yep - it was a great run from Benita Johnson - she truly deserved that win and must be one of the favourites for Athens 10k.

The 'Dibaba' running today was Ejagayehu Dibaba, and not her younger (faster) sister, Tirunesh Dibaba.

I know I'm a hopeless dreamer and idealist, but I sure wish this was shown on US TV. The World Cross is a very cool event...

It will, of course, be on the CBC. 6th for Canada in the men's short course and another good showing for Mondor finishing 8th in the women's long.

AC just sent an email around saying:

"This is our best team result ever in the Men’s Short race (6th) and also our best ever
individual placing (Kevin Sullivan 17th). First non African country!"

            ...and about the women:

"This is clearly our best result for our Women Long Course since at the very least Marakesh 1998.

Émilie’s 8th position is our best individual result since World Cross was changed to a two-day package (1998 Marakesh)."

It is the twentieth anninversiry of the last time the World CC was shown on TV. Pretty amazing considering there are probably 200 more channels on now. Oh, I just love progress.

Yes, I remember that '84 broadcast--was it shown live? Will it be another 20 years before we see another US TV broadcast of this race? All the more reason to retire in Canada or the UK...

So, kuha, is that your new plan? Retire to some igloo in Canada so you can watch track?

                      Re: XC Champs

Nah, I don't think igloos are large enough--or the right climate--for my 18 tons of t&f books, memorabilia, and assorted athletic foolishness. All other things being equal, I'd vote for, say, Henley-on-Thames...

It seems Canada can holds it own against the US in distance running. Still, Canada has a long way to go in the Marathon.

I'm taping the UK (BBC) coverage of the WXCh, so if any American people here would like to borrow it, then just let me know. we could arrange a kind of 'WXCh video tour of USA' where people pass the video along to someone else once they've finished with it. Like I say, if anyone is interested in borrowing it, just let me know.
