Hey, that is no way for a Texan to talk. Levelland is actually in the middle of some mighty fine cotton fields and only 30 short miles due west of beautiful downtown Lubbock.

It was nice to see Bryshon Nellum (USC) pop off something around 46 or under in the 4x4. And when will 3:07.40 be taken down?

As much as I passionately hate the University of Southern California (go Bruins!), I find it impossible not to root for this dude.

Wasn't he like, literally not even expected to be able to ever walk again for the rest of his life, for the initial doctors' prognosis after the bones in his legs got shattered/pulverized when he was shot by gang members or something? I never really heard the exact details or full story, but I'm pretty sure that that was the gist of how bad it was if I remember correctly.

What an amazing recovery. I heard rumors from some people in the audience who were sitting near me that he ran a leg at the USC invitational last month in the 4x100 (which I attended in person), but I wasn't sure, cuz I couldn't see the the faces too well from where I was sitting in the stands.

Maybe it was him in that relay last month afterall.

By the way, does anyone know what's going on with Kevin Craddock? Did he get re-injured for the seven hundred quadrillionth straight season? I saw that he was doing okay in his initial indoors marks this season, but then it showed he ran like an 8.5 second 60m hurdles or something, but didn't say whether he just tripped over a hurdle or if he had gotten injured AGAIN (as usual). I keep checking the UCLA site and everywhere to try to find out, but nobody seems to want to say what happened to him...

              ...anyone know?

only the leadoff is a true freshmen and none of them are from anywhere near TX, but still an amazing run

I feel you completely on that one! With the Bruins perhaps minus a 3:00 team I wish USC well at NCs.

We Bruces must be on the same page. First thing I thought of when I saw Levelland mentioned was the McMurtry tune. I am a bit offended at the snarky dissing of Lubbock. To those who look down, I can only say....Buddy Holly, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Bobby Keyes, just to name a few. They have a great Buddy Holly Museum as well.

Some further lyrics defining the "draw" of Levelland:

I've paid off all my debts
Got some change left over yet and I'm
                    Gettin' on a whisper jet
I'm gonna fly as far as I can get from
                    Levelland

It just said in a UCLA release last week that he "left the team" and that was that. He seems to still be working out on campus and presumably taking classes, but no idea why he chose to end his collegiate career. I'm guessing here, but it seems he may be gearing up for his "pro" career without having to deal with the regular meets in college.

I was certainly not dissing Lubbock. My maternal family has lived in and around Lubbock since 1930s when it was a small county seat town. My only rich relative was an uncle who farmed irrigated cotton between Lubbock and Levelland.

Sorry, I thought your reference to "beautiful downtown Lubbock" was sarcastic.

Spearmon has always had an unbelievable top end, but he went by everyone without too much trouble and was able to showcase to the audience at the same time! I hope that he can have a good year and I would love to see him take a serious stab at the 400m in the next year or two. I always thought he was the guy that could break Johnson's record.
As talented as he is, I seriously doubt that Wallace Spearmon will ever break the 400m WR.

A lot of people wanted to make Wallace a 400m runner when he came on the scene back in 2004 because of his running style.

At this point its pretty obvious that he is far more comfortable in the 1 and 2.

                                It had to be.

I love Lubbock too, but the sarcasm sensed here had to be real.
