    Re: Texas Relays coverage

I guess I was a little too provincial. Many years ago there was a radio personality in Lubbock who frequently referred to "beautiful downtown Lubbock". I don't know if he was being sarcastic but I don't think so. Fifty years ago, when I lived in Wichita, Ks, another radio guy repeatedly spoke of "beautiful downtown Wichita". The phrase just jumped into my mind as I was typing.
Come to think of it, I have been in every city in the US and cannot think of any which truly have a beautiful "downtown" but I am taking nominations on another thread..

Speaking of the 3:07.40, the team that set the record, Cali Hawthorne(-one runner + an alternate) was introduced to the crowd. It's hard to believe that was 25 years ago!

Anyone know why Miss St. ran in the invite 4x4 instead of the Cleburne Price Jr. race (they are listed as a scratch in the latter)?

Because Texas knew that it would push their team back another place...they screwed a few teams on lane assignments the entire meet. If they thought they could get away with it, they might have put a team in lane 10 (and run through the long jump pits on the backstreach). It sucks to get beat, so why not enter a team and scratch... Cowards!

How do you screw a team in regards to lane assignments in a 4x4? I've run about 200 of them in my life and unless your first leg is 6'8", it really shouldn't matter all that much.

So if you are so experienced-- then why don't we start giving lane preference starting in lane 1 and then just continue on through lane 9??? :? Get a glove and get in the game...

Please. It's the same distance regardless of what lane you are in. This isn't an Indoor 200m on a flat track. The concept of lane preference in a 4x4 exists only in the heads of the athletes looking to make excuses. It's not right for meet organization to hand out bogus seeds and assign lanes as such, but it's similarly not right for a set of athletes to allow someone as non-consequential as a lane get in their heads so much.
