would be his second-fastest time ever (behind the HSR 10.01 at the OT)

The Women's 100 heats were in the range of 2.0/3.0 wind, so it's possible that it was windy. Still waiting on the official result.

No collgeiate running back has ever ran a sub10.00. Will he be the first?

I believe he'd be the first player at any position to do that. Unless I'm mistaken, Holliday at 10.00 and Ford at 10.01 (both WRs) have come the closest.

I must say I like my sprint prospects staying as far away from football as possible, despite, they often requiring one similar attribute of speed (within the context of runningbacks), football really contrasts (sometimes contradicts) what a dedicated and focused sprinter is to bring to the sport or a track team.

He's more than a sprint prospect; he's a legitimate football prospect as well. Generally in my view these cases sort out in a very binary fashion; you have elite track prospects who choose track because they're simply not cut out in football for the next level (Xavier Carter), and you have elite football prospects who run track simply because they're amazing athletes and they're blessed with a coaching staff that recognizes the value of speed training (CJ Spiller).

From the publications I've been reading, Demps is very much a legit NFL prospect, so our fan bias aside, why wouldn't he go for the more lucrative outlet where the barrier to entry is so much less? Unless you're worried about a Robert Griffin-like injury which could derail everything, I don't see much of an argument personally.

Can't disagree with that naddio. I guess I'm just a purist not wanting to have my greasy stake knife cut my birthday cake. Guilty of fin bias here.

I think that Hayes was 'sub-10' in absolutely every way except the numbers on the stopwatch. Put him on a current track and it can't be close, not the way he ran that 4x100 anchor. Remember, he did not have to run the 100m nearly as hard as he had to run the 4x100 (was he saving himself in the 100m ?).

Forget Hayes on a current track; with different circumstances he probably would have broken 10 on the dirt in Tokyo.

Remember he drew lane 1, and immediately before the 100 was the start of the 20K walk, and 35 guys did 3 laps of the track, chewing it up (particularly lane 1) quite nicely.

They did rake the track before the 100, but it wasn't rerolled.

For those not old enough to have ever run on a dirt track, you'll not appreciate just how much slippage was involved.

Yep no collegiate footballer has ever ran a sub10.00. Leonard Scott and John Capel both ran sub10.00 and were wide receivers but they were no longer on the Tennessee/Florida football teams.

                            I agree 100%. He did run a windy 9.91.
