  • NCAA 4x4 -- wow 2010 is shaping up nicely

Top 6 all-time NCAA D-1 4x4 teams... notice that all were set in June when teams were in peak form.
    2:59.59 LSU 06/11/05
    2:59.91 UCLA 06/04/88
    2:59.95 Georgia Tech 06/06/92
    2:59.99 Flor. St. 06/13/09
    3:00.04 Baylor 06/09/07
    3:00.22 Baylor 06/14/08

And this is the current top 4, and yet it's early April (Edited wrong info about Wyatt)
    1 Florida --- 3:00.31
    2 Texas A&M -- 3:01.55
    3 Baylor -- 3:02.70
    4 USC -- 3:03.26

If these teams stay healthy and peak well, then push each other in the NCAA final, I don't see a chance in heck that LSU's record can stand.

Some more fast early season college 4x4 times:

    3:00.31 - Florida -- April 2, 2010
    3:00.61 - Baylor -- April 1, 1995
    3:00.78 - Southern Ill. Univ. -- April 28, 1984
3:00.81 - UCLA -- April 24, 1988 (this is the team that six weeks later set the NCAA record [broken in '05 by LSU] and first college team to go sub-3)
    3:01.06 - Baylor -- April 3, 2004
    3:01.10 - Florida -- April 24, 2004
    3:01.39 - LSU -- April 24, 2004
    3:01.49 - Florida -- April 3, 2004
    3:01.51 - ASU -- April 3, 2004
3:01.54 - Flor. St. -- April 25, 2009 (this is the same group that won 2009 NCAA with a time of 2:59.99)
    3:01.55 - Texas A&M -- April 3, 2010

Five marks by four teams, but none of them made this list (at least in 2004 - LSU did the next year):

Keep an eye on Mississippi State . They have three guys who can run a sub 45.60 and a 50.06 400hurdler.

Yes, Mississippi State is definitely a big factor in the 4x400! I predict they will come second to Florida at NCAA meet.

Which implies that you are predicting Baylor to not be in the top 2, have you no h[e]art?

I'm a huge Baylor fan when it comes up to their men 4x400. But this season, I just don't see it. Or less they have an elite 400 mtr transfer/runner who hasn't ran on their relay yet. Otherwise I predict Baylor 4x400 to place 3rd at NC's.

I earlier stated that Mississippi State will place 2nd but I have to be more realistic and place them coming in at 4th at the NCAA meet.

              My predictions:
              MEN 4x400
              1st Florida
              2nd Tx A&M
              3rd Baylor
              4th Mississippi State
              5th USC

              WOMEN 4x400
              1st Texas
              2nd Arkansas
              3rd Oregon
              4th LSU
              5th Tx A&M

Re: NCAA 4x4 -- wow 2010 is shaping up nicely

                My prediction for Men:
                Florida
                Texas A&M
                Miss.
                Baylor
USC or Maybe even Fl. State

I think a fresh Texas A&M 4x4 can win but with three legs possibly running other events (Henry 400m,Pinder 400m, Mitchell 200m ) at NC's its going to be hard to beat Florida who will possibly have two fresh legs compared to A&M who will possibly just have one (Smith 400 and Taylor TJ and/or LJ).
But Florida may also be matched with A&M, in terms of fresh legs, if McQuay makes it to NC's in the 400m.

Also if Im not mistaken USC ran with Wyatt on the anchor in Texas.

The order of finish appears consistent with recent showings. USC will need something special from Anderson to move up, IMHO. And, as you rightly commented, Wyatt did finish things for the Trojans in Austin.

Florida's splits: Anderson 46.4, McQuay 44.5, Taylor 44.9, Smith 44.5 (gotta love an NCAA triple jump champ running sub-45)

                          MSU has....

Tavaris Tate who has ran a sub45.00 already this year. They have Dwight Mullings 44.98 and O' Neal Wilder 45.54 from last season. There's also Emmanuel Mayers a 50.06 hurdler. If healthy and running those kinds of times....

He was a 400m sprinter in HS to go with his jumping.

Trying to figure out the NCAA 4 x 4 is too premature. Too often it's a matter of attrition.
