  • Best of Luck

I just wanted to say thanks to Garry, Ben and all those at T&F News for a very interesting board.

I have enjoyed taking part in this past year, even when I have opened up a little too much on personal views.

I am voluntarily pulling the plug on myself. I hope the lively discussions continue and I urge all of you to stay away from name-calling and negative personal comments about those who do not agree with your point of view. After-all its is differing opinions and and free open debate that makes democracy such a great tool for mankind.

It is when we use intimindation in the form of personal attacks and name calling that this message board and democracy tends to break down.

Thanks and God Bless you all,

    Go Track & Field!

5k Guy... At least continue reading the boards, man... the messages are entertaining, thought-provoking and interesting. Every quote has made this message board what it is today. It would not have been the same without you.

Why? While we are philosophical opposites, our debates have been civilized, without the name-calling. I'll miss you.

I agree. Of all the Internet forums dedicated to discussing track and field, I find this the most civilized. Of course we disagree about things--the sport and the Board would be pretty bland if we didn't. But we have rarely degenerated into the kind of ad hominem debates that we've seen on other track Boards, and when we have, the good folks at T&FN have not hesitated to take the appropriate steps needed to bring things back to within proper boundaries. I suppose I could imagine a T&F Board with no arguments at all, but I think most of us would find that terminally boring.

I agree that this board is very civilized. None of this no caps nonsense. Of course, there is Satch with his antithesis of e. e. cummings but he has improved, and since his resurrection from the dead there is hope!

Hey 5K Guy, don't pull the plug! Just give it a rest for a while. It's an Olympic year. We need your views.

Don't forget about Michael Lewis, who did his Nixon routine a few months ago.

I believe Mike Tyson would be a more apt comprison.

You're right no name. I forgot about ML. But since GH tossed him out (at least at first) his Nixon impersonation was closer to the 1974 version rather than the 1962 one that is popular now on this board.

True, 1974 might be more appropriate here. I miss him -- whether you agreed with him or not (and it seemed that most didn't), you have to admit that he livened up the board.

What is it about the net that brings the drama queens out?

5k guy, I don't recall anything you've ever written here on the TAFN message board, but I'm sure we'll miss your input, and our sport will be diminished ...I think.

"Goodbye cruel world", "you won't have me to kick around anymore", "we now have suitcase nukes" - we've heard them all before...

                              Missing You

                              1983 John Waite (J. Waite, M. Sanford, C.Leonard)

Every time I think of you
                              I always catch my breath
                              And I'm still standing here
                              And you're miles away
And I'm wondering why you left

                              And there's a storm that's raging
                              Through my frozen heart tonight

I hear your name in certain circles
And it always makes me smile
                              I spend my time
                              Thinking about you
And it's almost driving me wild

                              And there's a heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight

I ain't missing you at all
                              Since you¹ve been gone
                              Away

                              No matter
                              What I might say

                              There's a message
                              In the wild
And I'm sending you this signal tonight

                              You don't know
                              How desperate I've become
And it looks like I'm losing this fight

                              In your world
                              I have no meaning
Though I'm trying hard to understand

And it's my heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight

I ain't missing you at all

And there's a message that I'm sending out
Like a telegraph to your soul
And if I can't bridge this distance
                              Stop this heartbreak overload

I ain't missing you at all
