    Re: UTech Games

Well in that case Asafa needs to get sponsored by E-Harmony lol. I'll make sure the next time Asafa is even mentioned as being involved in this meet I'll put on my good suit, get a plane ticket to kingston and help these ladies feel a little less disappointed.
    All hail Lord Zanus!

Here are some of the expected clashes....

        http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/2010 ... orts4.html

"Powell will run the 200m, while World and Olympic 100m champion, Fraser, and World and Olympic 400m silver medal winner, Shericka Williams, will go head-to-head in the 200m. Another World and Olympic champion, Walker, is set to compete in the 400-flat and high riding sprint hurdler, Brigitte Foster- Hylton, will match strides with Sherone Simpson in the 100m."

Although Bolt won't be there, some of his Track Racers colleagues will be....

"They are Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Daniel Bailey and Jermaine Gonzales, the quartermiler whose career has been dogged by injury."

Frater should be running in the 100 today....

          http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/2010 ... orts1.html

"The 100m for men will feature Olympic sprint relay gold medallists Nesta Carter and Michael Frater, along with Trinidzadian Darrel Brown."

And Asafa should be tested over 200....

          http://www.radiojamaica.com/content/view/26652/48/

"Powell is down to contest the men's 200 metres and could face American Travis Padgett along with the Racers Track Club pair of Yohan Blake and Marvin Anderson."

I had wondered about that myself. An article in today's Observer revealed the following:

"Last December, the UTech escaped major sanctions from the Fair Trading Commission (FTC), following a probe into the “no-show” of several top athletes — including former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell — who were billed to appear at the Classic on April 18, 2009.

According to a 'Consent Agreement' UTech were ordered to issue a public apology and pay the FTC the sum of $126,333.30 by way of costs incurred in the investigation of the complaint (general public).

UTech had faced the possibility of a maximum fine of $5 million."

Slap on the wrist but the punishment will be felt today with the gate entries, hopefully folks like me who just love the sport too much and can't hold grudge to stop them from seeing Asafa make his way in a 200 or Carter/Blake/Frater/Anderson in a 100m might attend.
However, I still think they are having Jamaicans suffer by not showing Asafa in the 100m (his truest fans deserve at least that).
Imagine if the only match Messi after a fantastic EU season scoring goals, played in Argentina was one that he played low keyed defence and management then coming to say he "competed" at home. MVP is just so full of it and the resentment is filtering to U-Tech. I would respect them 100 times more if they just told the track public that if the money aint right MVP aint tight regardless of country.
