    Re: UTech Games

A very reliable source says that Asafa's slow-down in the 200m was the result of pure precaution, caused by a foot slipping out of a shoe. Out of an abundance of caution he slowed because he did not want to re-injure his ankle. The shoe did not slip off and he was able to finish the race etc.

I know that both local newspapers have reported cramps; I am not refuting what they have printed, I am simply relaying the info I have received from my source, which I consider to be impeccable.

Good to know. He seemed to be fine after the race. He was walking around regularly with no obvious discomfort.

I really do hope he shows up for Penn Relays this weekend.

Heard that Bolt was a "surprise" late showing in the relay which unfortunately, the baton did not make it around to him.

Nice start by Nesta. Looks like he has worked on it. It was garbage in Doha.

Dude just got tied up in the last 150m approaching the long jump pit at which the time the female long jumpers were warming up in the long jump area and then further as he passed the front seats near the gradstand where family members normally sit, lost concentration when he smiled to himself then re-held himself to jog in. And that's it.

That Asafa is one rudeboy. Right Toy?

She is still overstriding a bit but Franno has definitely corrected some of her flaws (and they are many) already. If Calvert can commit to a proper offseason conditioning program and learns how to run she will go sub 11. I don't think it happens this season though. If Carrie Russell stays uninjured then next year's WC trials W100m will be worth going miles to see. No one will be safe six into four I can't LOL ROFL QWL
Denty, no need to be so formal... First, I never said that Russell had less upside than Calvert (Russell certainly exhibited incredible power in yesterday's 100m). I made a list, that was hardly comprehensive, based upon 100m times below 11.20 - which is the BEST way to determine sub-22 200m ability. Period. (if Russell, this season, finishes below 11.20, her name may be added to the list - but not before) 400m ability also shows a correlation, but only when the athlete is sub-50 IN ADDITION to being at least sub-11.20.

Your point that Calvert will go sub-11 (with more commitment) is the indicator that she may also go sub-22. And, though she showed little power in her race yesterday, I believe Mills will find the correct path for her.

The COLD hard fact is that Denty; Russell never registered on Seven's radar until yesterday. All the proof in the world is on the forum to see. I can't believe Seven is still forwarding this level of discussion about these issues. He just can't stand to be corrected as he had only called Calvert on a whim.

I'm just sorry the weather turned so terrible yesterday. Asafa doesn't run the 200m much, and it would have been interesting to see if he could have lowered his PR and by how much. Still, we did get some indication of what might have been. Padgett is a solid 10.0 runner and even with all of his troubles and slowing Asafa still crossed the line in front.

Next, Penn. Should be interesting, again.

On the real, I'm just glad he never injured himself, I eagerly await the Asafa enigma being solved this year. This guy is in a position right now to freely get as good as he potentially can, as well as just go with the flow and watch and wait for Daegu.

                            Excuse me?

Speaking as the only person that has written about a direct cause of his slow down, I take offense to that remark. What really was your purpose behind posting the same link for the second time on the same page of the thread, along with the innuendo?

Yeah, even though RJR persists with the 'cramps' story, they say Asafa will be fine....

                                http://www.radiojamaica.com/content/view/26683/48/

"Meanwhile, former 100 metre world record holder Asafa Powell, who slowed down considerably on his way to victory in the men's 200 metres, says he will be fine after feeling cramps to his calf muscles."

Not so sure about BFH though....

"World 100 metre hurdles champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton will be visiting specialist doctor on Monday after picking up a left ham string injury at the University of Technology Track Classic at the national stadium on Saturday. Running in wet and rainy conditions, Foster-Hylton pulled up midway the women's 100 metres which was won by MVP Club mate Sherone Simpson in 11.58 seconds."

Given her age, this is most unfortunate, with the DL circuit about to start....
My heart is still in the Caribbean....
