"STAR athletes from leading Jamaican-based track clubs MVP and Racers are expected to be on show at the third staging of the University of Technology (UTech) Track and Field Classic at the National Stadium on April 17."

    http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sport/UT ... ic_7524421

"World and Olympic 100-metre record-holder Usain Bolt is not among those confirmed to compete, but track lovers can look forward to seeing other members of that club in action. Racers also have the likes of Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Jermaine Gonzales and Antiguan Daniel Bailey within their ranks. Former world record-holder Asafa Powell of MVP has been entered in the 200 metre event, while clubmates and Olympic gold medallists Nesta Carter and Michael Frater, along with former youth sensation Darrel Brown of Trinidad, are down to contest the 100 metres. Sprint hurdler Brigitte Foster- Hylton, still riding high after a stellar 2009 season, will square-off with Sherone Simpson in the 100-metre flat, while World and Olympic 100 metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser and World and Olympic 400 metre silver medal winner Shericka Williams will participate in the 200. Another World and Olympic champion, hurdler Melaine Walker, should also compete when she laces up in the 400m flat."

Once bitten twice shy. I don't like washing dirty linen in public but this meet has made itself into one of the worst calendar meets (if not the worst) in Jamaica. Not only the fact that the billed crowd pullers don't show and sit in the stand happily going lucky, but the officiating marshalling and vibe just suck!!! Won't even get a blip on my radar.

P.S. is the jury still out on the Fair-Trading Commission vs. The Meet Organisers?

Interestingly, the MVP athletes will be running in this meet, but most of them have pulled out of the Jamaica Invitational Meet on May 1....

If I still lived in Kingston or was still single I would go. Being married with children and living in Mandeville makes it not apriority as I am already going to the May 1st meet.

            Where is MVP headquartered?

            UTech.

Not hard to see why they would commit to running this meet, as they have done in the past.

Pelpa, are you really going on about the Asafa no-show last year, when the world now knows that he had a badly injured ankle?

This one was baited with you in mind Toy. I won't even get into that one with you, your interests, as per history of comments, are CLEARLY CONFLICTED!!! Ankle smankle my derriere.

P.S. At the end of the day, Asafa et al were no-shows and the organisers nor MVP never saw it fit to inform the public at least as late as the day before that an ankle was injured. Next thing is that the meet sucked royally the fans were livid the officiating was poor the races were over-scheduled and the organiseres were brought to court.

Aside from any meet orginization and/or officiating, I've always wondered why it only takes a few athletes from mvp to not compete in order for that to mean the whole team skipped. Sure someone could have mentioned Asafa's injury earlier, but it gets a little old when whole team is said to have skipped when you can usually count on one hand the athletes who miss it.

Well I certainly never said the whole team did not perform!!! So I don't know where that comment came from. With that said though, ASAFA was the selling pitch for that meet the guy used to advertise and the main act. It does not dull the pain when you paid particularly to see Asafa run then to suddenly see him sitting in front you fraternising with the girls. I mean I support local runners but I spend all my weekends during january to March watching developmental meets, when I open my appetitie for the big stuff then damn sure sreve it to me,..especially when I paid for it.

How the hell should a paying fan feel. Next thing is when Asafa and (et al) do not show and leave winston Barnes and Bent to represent MVP at what is basically their own meet, then my friend, that's a slap in face. I can only remember melaine performing as the platinum card carrying MVP member. Yeah IT WAS NOT ONLY ASAFA WHO WAS ADVERTISED AND AWOL.

You need to walk a 100m in my spikes to feel my pain.

                      http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/ ... orts3.html

Asafa counts as two, he was to run the 4x100m against a Racers team. he was aslo to run the 100m.

Brown turned up lame at the 11th hour.

Williams suddenly remebered Family commitments the day before.

                      Germain sick and abscent
                      Sherone sick and abscent
Shelly performed, but was too sick
Melaine present, but too sick, put her with shelly and it only equalled one.

That's more than a few big ticket pros abscent there.

T o make matters worst the organisers and by extent the camp only had the courtesy of reavealing this a week later.

Don't get me wrong but I am upset at the organisers in this respect , they took my money and failed to supply, Asafa easily could have been a sole athlete of a camp doesn't matter about his cronies. The thing is ;the big ticket entry failed to materialise.

At the base of it (which Toy can tell you) there were issues that were deeper than Asafa's ankle.

                        Re: UTech Games

My issue has never been with the fans being upset at what you describe. Its only when people make no distinction between Asafa(or melaine) missing out and then claim that mvp as a whole is missing or boycotting. As I said, mvp could do a better job "advertising" injuries and such things that would cause some of there athletes miss. I just get this feeling however that had mvp given notice 1-2 months in advance it would still cause a problem with some.

By the way Pelpa I'm well aware of the deeper issues here. I've not mentioned them because I wanted to focus on a specific point. I don't think MVP is innocent in all of this. I can say with certainty that Asafa was really injured based on his performance last year. Most of the other athletes were probably never going to run. Whether or not the meet was part of there schedule or the big names were never going to run is part of the deeper issue between JAAA and MVP.

We see eye to eye, but we know how to look at things (me a liitle less since I blinded by my emotions with the MVP asking me to stick my head in the sand act as if I knew the money was right and they wanted to run). The rest of track fanatic fans, who when they hear Asafa of MVP will be there and are thinking this: ASAFA and MVP and to some extent that little cute one.. So take away their darling and beloved Asafa and all those fantics see is:
rest of MVP and to some extent that little cute one.

You know how many housewives and single aunties ventured into kingston to see Asafa, their one outing out for the year?

Would you mind sharing them with the Board so that we interested non-Jamaicans can have a clue as to what's really going on.
