ok, the webb mile record or the ritz 5k record...

which of these does bernard lagat have the better chance to take down this summer...

lagat in zurich, with bekele and a hoard of pacers, seems more likely to me...

webb one, well, there's no bekele like presence in the mile, so the attempt needs to be arranged ny lagat et al...

    any one think otherwise

I agree with your reasoning above. Plus, I'm guessing his best mile times are behind him; Webb's mile record is pretty good.

      lagat had looked fantastic indoors...

i'd like him to give it a run at the mile...

get the pacers, and see how far sub 3:50 he can go....

        Re: lagat

will there be any rabbits in Zürich? I haven't looked/asked about what kind of rules they're having at the two DL finals (which Z is), but are they allowed to have "unqualified" people in the race, or will the distance races in Z and Brussels mimic the actual head-to-head racing (gasp!) that the GP Final/WAF meet always had?

Seems to me that with a huge (relatively speaking) prize on the line, everybody should have an equal shot at it, not just those who can follow a rabbit.

was the zurich 5k race last year, part of the prize???

yes, it was, and bekele went 12:52....don't think he did it on his own...

if bekele goes 12:52 again, surely, lagat can hold on like ritz did..??

Golden League and Diamond League are not the same animals; the DL has a far more regimented structure.

the mile run is extremely rare nowadays for big races, PRE, OSLO, maybe the meet in london, maybe a couple others, lagat already said his training will be focused on the 3k-5k this year, though he did not rule out a 1500/mile, lagat's 1500 time is slightly superior to webb's mile time in most convert 1500-mile times, lagat is still the USA's runner 1500-10k and yes i know he has not yet run a 10k, this is my guess for lagat this year, he gets kennedy's american 3k record on may 27th gets the american 5k record during the season then hopefully brussells has a 10k this year and is one of the last meets of the season on august 28th, so lagat jumps in the race and breaks meb's 10k AR.
difficult, but lagat is still great and may be able to pull it off.

It's got to be at least 2 full seconds superior....

                      By the 1.08 rule, Lagat's 3:26.34 is a 3:42.85 mile.

Yes, that's quick. It was a really memorable race--the best 1500/mile I've ever witnessed.

i meant lagat's 3:29.30 best as an american (american 1500 record) for 1500 is superior to webb's 3:46.91 mile.
although i heard lagat ran 3.27 for 1500 as a american, not sure why if he was a USA citizen why that time would not be the american record, oh well some technicality/rule.

as several have mentioned the 3:26.34 is FAR superior.

note that it was NOT my quote that said slightly superior.
