After decades of being sponsored by adidas, the German Federation (Deutscher Leichtathletik Verband) has signed with Nike, the contract to begin at the end of the year. The DLV has been sponsored by adidas for decades, and of course, the international HQ of adidas is in Germany.

    Re: Shoe Wars

Speaking of shoe wars, does anyone else remember the albino shoes some of the shoe companies put out in the late sixties? Apparently the IAAF (or the IOC) were trying to rein in commercialism (yes, I know it sounds funny, now) and make the runners wear all white shoes at the Olympics. I bought a few pairs of all white Tiger Marathons around 1972 and this was what I remember hearing.

I had a pair of those! I thought that that was the wave of the future - lasted about a year.

Yes, definitely a blow to the morale of adidas, I'd say.
