  • new Track book ?

I was in Borders tonight and saw a new book, "The Perfect Mile" by Neil Bascomb. I only had a few moments to glance at it; seems to be all about the Bannister/Landy/Santee assault on the Four Minute Mile; it had some good pictures in it too.

Has anybody read it ? Is it any good ?

I asked this question about 2 weeks ago, and nobody replied... thought I would re-post it. To repeat, had anybody else seen/read this book ?

I commented on this some time ago. I haven't seen the book but know a bit of the history. Bascomb did lots of research--spent a good deal of time with Wes Santee and with Landy. (I don't believe Sir Roger ever saw him.) The book should have a good deal of new info in it, but I'm eager to see it myself. The movie rights were sold early on to the company that did Seabiscuit. This is clearly being positioned as THE 50th anniversary book on Bannister's race.

Once a few of us have read it, we should start a "reviews" thread...

I just bought the book yesterday and am half way through it right now. When I'm finished I'll post my complete thoughts, but so far It's well worth the read. The way it's written you kind of get a sence what each one was going through on their quest to become the first sub 4miler. I've read Bannister's book and this book does have a good deal of info that I wasn't aware of too.

Steve, I went to school with the guy who started this link on letsrun about this book. His judgement can be trusted:

Is that book what the movie (being done by the Seabisquit folks)is based on?
