    Not sure I've seen the 84 trials race but for me the 88 olympic final was the best example of a barn burner. Barbosa, Cruz and Kiprotich all fighting for the lead, going through in 49.5. Atypically, Gray ran more like Borza in that race, if i remember correctly.

              Earl Jones used to routinely go out in 49.5 - 50.3. I am not sure why more USA 800 runners have not at least tried it over the years, especially the ones that move up from the 400. Let me put in a disclaimer. "I know nothing about 800 meter training"
