Photos being displayed on news sources show the Olympic Stadium without a track in place, 140 days before opening day. Is this the case? How long does it take for a new track to cure out after being set down? What happens if they really are NOT ready in 140 days?

A new set of WRs for dirt tracks? (We used to keep one of those; have to see if I can find it)

I thought it took a couple of years for a track to settle and firm up. I ran on one of the newest ones in the Canadian 1964 Olympic trials and we kept sticking to it. It was very tacky.

My only recent experience is with a track installed locally 4 years ago. It took several weeks to install and then two or three weeks more to set up. I think it continued to harden for several months thereafter. Of course they will have the $ to install quickly in Athens, but I still wonder about the condition of a brand new surface. And what effect will the dreaded blistering heat of the Greek summer have on it? Who knows more about this?

P.S. (gh may be right... if they throw the shot in the ancient arena, maybe we should just go for an entire retro-program: dirt tracks, stone implements,naked runners, etc.)
