Okay, thanks for the clarification Jon.

Still what she's done is impressive.

And as you said earlier she seems to have found her niche.

As an aside, Stambolova ran 22.92 over 200m in Turkey on wednesday evening, so the defending champion may also be another one for Ohuruogu to contend with as well as Rosolova.

Stambolova opened her 400m campaign with a good 50.88

Will Stambolova try to double? She seemed to concentrate on the 400h last year.

As a heptathlete, Rosolova's PB were just 23.56 for 200 and 2:11.70 for 800. Makes you wonder what someone like Karolina Tymi?ska, with her 23.32/ 2:05.53, could do if she focused on the 400...

Or Behmer (23.10/2:03.76) or Neubert (23.14/2:04.73) or Paetz (23.23/2:06.14) or Kluft (22.98/2:08.89) or Sotherton (23.39/2:07.34) or Chernova (23.50/2:06.50) or Drechsler (21.71/2:11.53) etc etc etc...

There are numerous heptathletes that have great PBs over 200 and 800 that leads you to believe they could be very good at 400m or 400mh. Multi event training obviously gives a good combination of speed and strength, but the athlete has to have some natural sprint ability in the first place.

I know there are other examples, but the other women you mention were successful enough as multi eventers (or LJer/ sprinter in Drechsler's case), so that it made no sense for them to make the switch. Tymi?ska is held back in the heptathlon by poor results in the HJ and JT, and I have a feeling it just might be a good idea for her to follow Rosolova's example.

It's an interesting question, but does she leave an event in which she has finished as high as 7th in the Olympics and move to one which is much more competive? Would she have made the Beijing final over 400m? Who knows, but she's an established top ten multi eventer, whereas Rosolova was never this. I absolutely agree that Tyminska has potential to run a fast 400m, but would she do better than in the multi events? Also, Rosolova may have found her sprint ability was hampered more in the heptathlon than Tyminska, who is a completely different build. Who knows!

On Friday Stambolova ran her first 400H race of the year and clocked 54.57, just 0.02 outside her NR she set in 2006.
