    Re: NCAA wHJ: 4:45 Wednesday

Isn't it unusual to have a field in which no jumper has cleared 1.83(6' 0")?

      Re: NCAA wHJ: 4:45 Wednesday

in this case not at all: the marks used for this meet are only those made in the Regionals, and the Regionals progression didn't include 1.83.

They don't look happy being introduced in that liquid sunshine.

            Re: NCAA wHJ: 4:45 Wednesday

Obviously not a good day for high jumping when 9 go out at the opening height of 5-7¾ (1.72).

Of course, a 24-person field is never conducive to good jumping no matter what the weather.

trivia question: Kaufman is second Hawai‘i woman to win an NCAA title: who was the first?

Think one of the two Hawaiian schools had a 10k winner named Smith?

Some jumpers took their first in heavy rain, then came back after a break (and maybe not enough warm up?) and missed off of a wet(?) runway.

When was the last time a heptathlete (in this case, Chelsea Taylor) outjumped the entire HJ field?

That's a good one. I had completely forgotten this particular athlete went to U of Hawai'i. (had to look it up...don't want to spoil it for others)

Couldn't repeat it in the actual event though (she's there in 5th place)
