    Re: NCAA mDec: 10:00 Thursday

    Vis a vis Hardee:

    8465 Trey Hardee USA 07/02/1984 1 Austin, TX 06/04/2006
    ( 10.35/2.5 - 7.70/3.0 - 14.45 - 1.99 - 49.11 / 13.83/3.1 - 48.24 - 5.20 - 60.00 - 5:06.73 )

    Eaton
    ( 10.37?.? - 7.90/?.?- 12.60 - 2.02 , ??/ ?)

This is still possible. Eaton will have to make up some ground on the 400, have a really good PV, and run like hell in the 1500 to do it.

[edit] With current wind rules, would Hardee's record count?

Quoting gh, from an earlier thread:

We'll abide by the new IAAF stricture, which for now probably makes Pappas the standing CR holder.

But I've noticed that T&FN still lists Hardee as the record holder. Not sure if this means they haven't gotten around to changing it, or if they're going with the NCAA rules with regard to wind. This would be a great time for gh to chime in, since Eaton has a shot at 'somebody's' CR.

Pappas' iaaf-wind-legal CR is 8463, so it's still gonna be tough for him.

There isn't a lot of difference between the two marks.

Not that this is any revelation, but Eaton is only hampered by his throws. Once he figures out how to throw things, he will conquer the outdoor world.

After his 46.28 (!!!) 400m Eaton is at 4500. That's 98 points ahead of Hardee

Where's the time place him on all-time decath 400m?

              Re: NCAA mDec: 10:00 Thursday

Answering my own question Eaton's 46.28 puts him into 7th spot on 400m list:

              1 William Toomey USA 45,68 8144 Mexico City 18.10.1968
              2 Duane Ladejo GBR 46,12 7633 Kuala Lumpur 17.09.1998

                Re: NCAA mDec: 10:00 Thursday

a blazing fast 46.28 for Eaton which is the college record in the 400 dec. and only 0.6 slower than the decathlon world record held by Bill Toomey!!!

At some point Eaton could push the 100 WR of 10.22, the 400 WR of 45.68, and the hurdles WR which I think is 13.47. And he runs a good 1500!

4500 points after Day 1, which is only 6 points up on his PR of 8310, so he'll need a large Day 2 PR to approach Hardee's CR.

This will be Eaton's 10th collegiate 8000 point decathlon, which has got to be the most ever by quite a bit. Pappas, Clay, Hardee had maybe 4 8,000 point dec's in college. The force is strong with this one.

                  AS:

Hardee is much stronger than Eaton in the discus and jav (48 meter disc and 60 meter jav in his CR), so I think the more relevant comparison is what might Eaton do on Day 2.

In his career he's scored over 3900 once and 3800 three other times. He's scored 3816 and 3934 in his two 2010 meets, which would project to the 8316-8434 range. I don't see Eaton ahead of Hardee's CR pace, more accurately slightly behind.

                    Re: NCAA mDec: 10:00 Thursday

If Eaton's 2nd day went something like this (all marks are slightly worse than his PRs):

                    13.65
                    42m
                    5.00m
                    50m
                    4:30.0

He'd score 3969 for the second day = 8469... and beat Hardee's record by 4pts!

                      8154 Ashton Eaton USA 21/01/1988 1 Berkeley, CA 09/05/2010
                      ( 10.59/-0.5 - 7.43/1.6 - 12.77 - 1.94 - 47.25 / 13.79/-1.0 - 42.29 - 5.15 - 49.67 - 4:39.97)

This is still possible. Eaton made up some ground on the 400. He will need have a really good PV, and run like hell in the 1500 to do it. Who knows if his 110 and 1500 can offset his throws? PV could go either way.

I am not betting Eaton will have much left for the LJ on Saturday.

Taiwo took an awful looking fall in the hurdles. Looked K.O.'d.

                            Eaton runs a nice 13.68 for 1016 points. 5516 after 6 events.

                            Taiwo withdraws after his fall.

5516 for Eaton. 13.68 hurdles. Touch and go gor record. Will be interesting to see how he runs 1500 in front of home crowd if record is on the line.

His 13.68 would have qualified him for the 110H finals. 8-)
