so, no one is around or something?! 10.37 (0.5) for Eaton. INCREDIBLE. The sprinters had 2.2 winds or so last night, if he had that wind he may have run a time close to what it took to make the 100 final. What an athlete! Great start.

OK. The CBSSports feed is showing the totals after two events. No LJ results anywhere, meanwhile. So...2041 points minus 1006 for the 100 = 1035 points, which would be a 7.90 jump.

It is raining here in Portland. is it raining in Eugene? If so, that may level the field so to speak for the SP. I expect Eaton is used to throwing in the rain where others may not.

Also, is anyone tracking Eaton's progress vis a vis Hardee's record?

Through 2 events Eaton is -2 points on his windy meet earlier this year at the Texas Relays (8310).

In Austin he started 10.34 and 7.88 for 2043 points, whereas in Eugene today he's started 10.37 and 7.90. The wind is a major difference though as the wind in Austin was +3.4 and +3.0 in the first two events. Today? 0.5 and 1.1. And probably around 60 degrees as well.

Also, Eaton was .03 off the 100m CR in the decathlon (by Silkauskus in '09?), and 11 cm. off the LJ CR (by Huffins). Nice start. And let's not forget in Austin Ashton had a sub-par PV (4.60) and 1500 by his standards (4:41). So there's points out there.

Eaton only manages 12.60 in the shot, losing another 31 points to his windy best. Hardee's record may be slipping away...

It will be tough for Eaton to beat Hardee. They are both excellent sprinters, comparable jumpers, and Eaton is a much weaker thrower. That leaves a really hard 1500 if Eaton wants this record.

Does Otto from Texas A&M stand legitimate shot at placing overall? Looks like he has 8th best score coming in but he is not in TAFNEWS predictions for top ten.
